Breaking: FIFO Worker Has Potentially Been Positive While In The Community

Perth COVID Update - Mark McGowan

A weak positive case has been out in the Perth community.

Mark McGowan has announced some breaking news as there has possibly been a positive in the community in Western Australia, in the last couple of weeks.

This person is a FIFO worker.

In encouraging news, the FIFO worker’s girlfriend has been tested and returned a negative result. His three closest friends have also been tested with one returning a negative result.

It is possible he contracted the virus at Perth Airport on Tuesday, 20 July, between 4am and 7am. That is the same time as a positive case from Queensland flew into Perth but was denied entry to WA, and subsequently tested positive when he returned to Queensland.

This is a highly unusual and fast-developing situation.

To summarise the situation MR McGowan is hopefully given the individual was previously COVID-19 positive in 2020 that he won’t have been infectious in the community despite being positive again.

“We think he was positive within last 16 days, at what point in time, he was positive, we’re not sure. And there’s also a strong prospect he wasn’t actually infectious because he was COVID positive last year, which apparently is a condition, when you can actually have had COVID then you get it again you aren’t actually infectious, that’s a strong possibility I certainly hope.”

List of exposure sites

WA Health is working on a list of potential exposure sites, and these will be added to the website as the information is finalised. They will be available at

Everyone who was at Perth Airport Terminal 4 (The Qantas Domestic Terminal) on 20 July between 4am and 7am must also now get tested immediately and self-quarantine until you get a negative result.

For the moment there is no lockdown or restrictions in place.
