Direct Flights Between Tokyo And Perth Recommence Today And More For Johannesburg

Flights between Tokyo and Perth resume today and more are being added to the Johannesburg-Perth route to meet the increase in demand.

Direct flights between Tokyo and Perth recommence today with All Nippon Airways three-times weekly flights delivering more than 17,000 inbound seats into WA between October 2024 and March 2025.

It comes as South African Airways confirm an increased flight frequency between Johannesburg and Perth from December 2024 to meet increased demand.

“It’s exciting to welcome back the direct flight between Tokyo and Perth, given Japan is one of our top 10 tourism markets for visitation and spend,” Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti said.

“Equally, it’s fantastic to see such huge demand for the services between Johannesburg and Perth, particularly given South Africa is one of our biggest inbound markets for travellers visiting their friends and relatives.”

Since borders reopened, the Cook Labor Government has secured the resumption and launch of direct flights with 20 international destinations into WA, reconnecting the state with the world.

The All Nippon Airways service between Tokyo and Perth first recommenced in October 2023, for an initial six month seasonal service, bringing an additional 17,000 inbound seats from Japan during the peak demand period.

The Tokyo to Perth service will operate three times a week, supporting an additional 17,000 inbound seats into WA over the next five months.

In addition, South African Airways has confirmed it will upscale its direct Johannesburg to Perth services which resumed in April 2024 and currently operate three times a week. The service will increase to four times a week from December 8th, 2024 and five times a week from January 7th, 2025.

It follows the recent launch of a direct flight to and from Paris, which makes Perth the only city in Australia with non-stop aviation connections to Continental Europe and the United Kingdom.

Perth is also preparing to welcome back China Southern’s direct flights between Guangzhou and Perth next month, as well as China Eastern Airlines special Chinese New Year flight between Shanghai and Perth.
