Key matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will show on the big screen at Northbridge Piazza, giving football fans a go-to place in the heart of the city to watch the action together.
The tournament gets underway this week — Thursday, June 11th — with games played across Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The Northbridge Piazza will broadcast key fixtures, including Socceroos matches, with Perth Glory and Football West putting on fan engagement activities during the Socceroos games. The state Government expects the screenings to draw thousands of people to Northbridge and boost trade for the surrounding restaurants and bars.
City of Perth Lord Mayor Bruce Reynolds called the Piazza “the perfect venue for football fans to gather and share the excitement of the FIFA World Cup,” and encouraged visitors to make a day or night of it by exploring Northbridge’s restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues before and after matches.
Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti added, “We’re excited to bring the electric atmosphere of the FIFA World Cup to the Northbridge Piazza which will add vibrancy to our city centre and provide a boost for surrounding businesses.”
“Whether you’re supporting the Socceroos or cheering on another nation, the Piazza will be a place where our community can come together and be a part of one of the world’s biggest sporting events.”
Your local can also stay open late
The Piazza won’t be the only place where you can watch the World Cup. Pubs, bars, and sporting clubs across WA can now apply to trade later for live broadcasts so they can stay open to screen the World Cup matches. Due to time zone differences, many matches will air late at night and early in the morning WA time. Under current licensing, most venues will normally be closed. These exemptions will allow venues to stay open later — until 30 minutes after a match finishes — so they can screen popular matches.
“The FIFA World Cup comes around only once every four years and we know this means late nights and early mornings for Australian fans to enjoy it properly,” Racing and Gaming Minister Paul Papalia said.
“Relaxing our liquor trading laws and allowing extended trading will allow our local pubs, bars and sporting clubs to benefit from this major international sporting event and keep their doors open while patrons soak up the atmosphere.”
A warm-up for August’s Calcio Italiano
“Events like this are an opportunity for Perth’s avid football fans to come together and builds excitement ahead of Perth hosting AC Milan, FC Internazionale Milano, Juventus and Palermo in August,” said Saffioti.
The World Cup also sets the table for what’s coming in August, when Perth hosts AC Milan, FC Internazionale Milano, Juventus, and Palermo as part of Calcio Italiano and WA’s Winter of Unmissable Sport.
