Another case of COVID-19 being transmitted between people in hotel quarantine has been recorded.

Victoria has recorded a COVID-19 case out of hotel quarantine in a man who returned from Perth on Wednesday.

The man had just completed two weeks hotel isolation in Perth, and was told to get another test by health authorities when he arrived in Melbourne, after it was revealed people in a room near him tested positive for COVID-19.

He travelled home to wife and two children, completing the test soon after.

A positive test was returned to him 2am on Friday morning, ending Victoria’s run of zero local transmission.

He has since moved into hotel quarantine out of caution.

It’s the second time someone has caught COVID-19 while in hotel quarantine, after pregnant, asthmatic nurse Alison Rose and her four-year-old daughter contracted the disease at the Mercure Hotel Perth.

Genomic testing confirmed they received it from a couple who had returned from India.

To prevent further spread of the virus from India – which recorded more than 300,000 COVID-19 cases on Wednesday – the Federal Government has announced it will scale back flights to and from the virus-ridden nation by 30 per cent.

Everyone on the Melbourne man’s flight from Perth to Melbourne, QF778, have been ordered to isolate for 14 days.

Mr Foley said it was “too early” to know whether the virus had spread to others on the plane or in the airport.

“This is an important and timely reminder to all of us that this pandemic is not over,” he said.
