Mask wearing is now mandatory at all public indoor settings in Perth and Peel

Following an announcement from Mark McGowan, the Perth and Peel region will now be required to wear masks at all public indoor settings as of Sunday 16th at 6pm.

Mask Restrictions: What You Need To Know

The mask mandate will not apply to the home, people with disabilities, people doing vigorous indoor exercise, or children in primary school or younger.

In addition, anyone who was in Perth or Peel (including Rottnest Island) since January 6 must also follow the mask requirements of Perth and Peel after leaving these regions.

If you are in Perth and Peel, you need to:

  • Wear a mask in all public indoor settings, including in the workplace
  • Wear a mask while using public transport, taxi and ride share services.
  • Wear a mask when at hospitals and aged care facilities

The new restrictions come after three new local cases were reported, meaning the Omicron variant of the virus is growing and spreading within the community.

Two of the reported cases are local and one has been linked to interstate travel. The local cases have been identified as contacts of previously reported cases, and both have been linked to U Natural Spa Therapy in Applecross. It’s believed both cases were infectious in the community, with contact tracers now working to determine any potential exposure locations and close contacts.

New Potential Exposure Sites

New potential higher risk exposure sites have been identified in Bassendean, Beckenham, Margaret River, Northbridge, Booragoon and Osborne Park along with new dates and times for previously announced sites.

People who have been at U Natural Massage in Applecross, New U Massage in Mt Lawley and Comfort Massage in Osborne Park are required to get tested immediately and self-quarantine for 14 days from the date of their last exposure.
