19-time grand slam champ Rafael Nadal will take to the court in Perth at RAC Arena for the ATP Cup.
In a big win for Perth and WA, Rafael Nadal is locked in to visit Perth for the very first time as he takes the court to play at RAC Arena in this summer’s ATP Cup.
While Roger Federer has visited Perth on numerous occasions with the Hopman Cup and has become quite the ambassador for our great city (most notably his Instagram breaking #QuokkaSelfie – Roger Federer Breaks Instagram With a Quokka Selfie), Rafael Nadal the Spanish grand slam superstar will make his first appearance in Perth with confirmation this morning that he will be heading to Perth for the ATP Tour as part of Team Spain.
Joining him in Perth will also be US Open runner-up Daniil Medvedev and Japan’s Kei Nishikori, after their countries were drawn in the Perth section.
ATP Group Draw
The ATP Cup tournament replaces Perth’s Hopman Cup as WA’s number one tennis event, with many traditionalists concerned with the loss of our major tennis tournament, however, the addition of Nadal in its the first year is definitely a coup for Perth and WA.
- Perth: Group B – Spain, Japan, Georgia. Group D – Russia, Italy, USA
- Brisbane: Group A – Serbia, France, South Africa. Group F – Germany, Greece, Canada, Australia
- Sydney: Group C – Switzerland, Belgium, Great Britian. Group E – Austria, Croatia, Argentina
As for other key ATP matchups, Roger Federer will be on the opposite side of the country to his biggest rivals in Sydney, while current world number one Nojak Djokovic will hit the court in Brisbane.

On the line for the winner outside of country pride is more than $22 million in prize money and ATP ranking points will be on the line for the inaugural tournament.
