On behalf of every Western Australian, the WA Government has announced a record $13 million donation to Telethon. The milestone donation will help the state’s sickest children and their families during their most challenging time.
Milestone donation saving and changing little lives
Over the years, the State Government’s donations have enabled the beloved children’s charity to support a growing number of beneficiaries, which in 2024, increased to 136.
“This record donation is made on behalf of every Western Australian — a donation that will deliver real results to some of our state’s bravest children and their families,” Premier Roger Cook said.
“It is about saving and changing little lives to help those children who, through no fault of their own, need our support.”
Delivering vital equipment, services, and medical research
The funds will help deliver vital equipment, critical services and programs, a range of transformational projects as well as boost medical research to improve the lives of thousands of children across WA.
Telethon has a global reputation of supporting sick, vulnerable, and disadvantaged children, raising more than $688 million over five decades. In 2024, Telethon funded 276 grants including 159 program grants, 55 research grants, 62 equipment grants, and 1,657 pieces of equipment.
“Telethon is more than a tradition — it is a Western Australian institution that has become a fundamental part of life in WA,” Cook said.
“To see kids helping kids is especially heartwarming and it sets an example to the rest of the state that we can all play a part in making WA a better place to live, especially for the most vulnerable in our community.”
Through inspiring generosity, this year’s Telethon Weekend raised an unbelievable, milestone total of $83,264,216. To relive the magic, fun, and philanthropy of the 26-hour broadcast, you can stream the event on demand through 7plus.
