As the summer season approaches, Rottnest Island is buzzing with anticipation, unveiling new businesses, experiences, and infrastructure upgrades designed to elevate the visitor experience. From thrilling guided adventures to beachside wellness programs, this iconic destination is ready to welcome travellers with open arms.
“This summer promises to be an exciting time at Rottnest Island, with new experiences and improved facilities catering to all visitors — from adventure seekers to those simply wanting to relax and unwind,” Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti said.
“The diverse range of new activities demonstrates our commitment to expanding the island’s offerings to enhance the visitor experience,” Saffioti said.
Five new tourism experiences
This summer, Rottnest Island will introduce five exciting new tourism experiences:
- Guided Cycling Adventures: Explore the island’s history and natural wonders on full-day guided cycling tours offered by Laura the Explorer Bike Tours.
- Sailing Adventures: Step aboard one of Australia’s last operating pearl luggers with Willie Creek Pearl Lugger Cruises for a taste of traditional sailing.
- Beachside Wellness Programs: Unwind with yoga and mindfulness sessions on the beach, brought to you by Evolve in You.
- Beach Safety Education: Learn lifesaving skills and beach safety through engaging programs delivered by Surf Life Saving WA.
- Hiking Trail Navigation App: Explore the Wadjemup Bidi trails using the WA Parks Foundation’s Smartreka app, offering digital navigation for a seamless hiking experience.
Sweet summer treats
In other good news, Kuld Creamery will be operating at a new location in Geordie Bay this summer, where they will be serving handcrafted ice-cream alongside its exclusive Quokka Traxx flavour.
Infrastructure upgrades
Major infrastructure projects have been completed in time for the summer rush, enhancing the island’s appeal and functionality:
- The Lodge Wadjemup: Stage One of the refurbished lodge has opened bookings for stays from early 2025. Visitors can look forward to 63 modernised rooms, as well as new food and beverage outlets, including the Pelican Kiosk and Sunsets Rottnest, opening this summer.
- Geordie Bay Units: Recent upgrades to 51 self-contained Stay Rottnest units include modern kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoor amenities, providing visitors with a comfortable and contemporary stay.
- Main Jetty Upgrades: A $26.8 million investment has revitalised the Main Jetty, ensuring safe and efficient access to the island for years to come.
“The completion of major infrastructure projects, including the Geordie Bay accommodation refurbishment and Main Jetty upgrades, ensures we can continue to provide high-quality experiences for the hundreds of thousands of visitors who choose Rottnest Island as their holiday destination,” Saffioti said.
Extended ferry services
To help visitors make the most of their time on Rottnest Island, the popular late-night ferry service has returned. The last ferry now departs at 9:00 pm from Thursday to Sunday until January, with the service shifting to Friday to Sunday from February to April, 2025.
“With late-night ferry services and new food and beverage offerings at The Lodge Wadjemup, visitors will have even more opportunities to experience everything Rottnest Island has to offer this summer,” Saffioti said.
