Sneak Peek At The New Bells Rapids Lookout Concept

New plans have been unveiled for a lookout at Bells Rapids, offering an unparalleled vantage point to view the rapids and Avon Valley.

The City of Swan has released concept designs for a lookout at Bells Rapids, which will be constructed on the site of the former Brigadoon sales office, transforming a derelict space into a captivating destination.

The proposed plans include an enhanced viewing platform that promises to elevate the experience for visitors, providing unobstructed views of the surrounding natural wonders. Additionally, the site will feature designated areas for a food and beverage van, beautifully landscaped spaces, and ample parking facilities. In the future, the lookout will be seamlessly connected to Bells Rapids through a network of walking trails, allowing nature enthusiasts to immerse themselves further in the stunning environment.

The ambitious project has received significant support from the Cook Government, with over $800,000 allocated to bring the concept to life. Swan Hills MLA Jessica Shaw expressed her excitement about the forthcoming Bells Rapids Lookout, highlighting its importance as a prized community, tourism, and recreational asset, drawing thousands of visitors each year.

Shaw noted, “Constituents tell me they want the derelict sales office replaced with recreational space, improved parking, safer road access and opportunity for food and beverage offerings.”

“I am pleased to have been able to secure State Government support for the redevelopment of the site and thank the City of Swan for its contribution.”

“I am looking forward to hearing people’s views on the concept design and can’t wait to see how the community will use the lookout into the future.

The concept design is now open for public feedback, and the community is invited to share their thoughts and ideas regarding the project.

Planning and design for the new tourism destination are already underway, with construction expected to commence in the 2024/25 fiscal year. As part of the revitalisation efforts, the old sales office building, deemed unsuitable for repurposing, will be demolished in the coming weeks, clearing the way for the construction of the lookout.
