Potential snowfall forecast for the Great Southern region.
Latest WA Weather update reports an upcoming cold blast in Western Australia’s south could see snowfall on Sunday and Monday.
Snowfall in Western Australia while rare, we still often see small falls each winter in the Stirling Range and more specifically the peak of Bluff Knoll.
Sunday is when the cold front is expected to hit and cross Western Australia’s Great Southern – bringing with it a cold pool of air behind the front which could create ideal conditions for snowfall on the Stirling Ranges.
Adam Conroy of the Bureau of Meteorology reported: “heading into Sunday night and Monday morning – with the cold pool of air there could be potential for snow on the Stirlings.”
Bluff Knoll sees snowfall in August 2019
Just last year in mid-August, Bluff Knoll was transformed into a winter wonderland.
Located in the Stirling Range National Park, Bluff Knoll at 1098m above sea level, is the highest and most spectacular peak in the South West, but still accessible for a person of average fitness.
Those looking to get their fix of cold weather and some snow should keep an eye on the weather updates for the Great Southern and be ready for a hike up to the top of Bluff Knoll.

While snowfall is forecast for in the south of WA, Perth will see the return of rain and cold weather this weekend and for the start of the week.
- Saturday: Min 7, Max 19 – Mostly cloudy
- Sunday: Min 8, Max 19 – Partly cloudy with high chance of showers in the afternoon and evening
- Monday: Min 6, Max 16 – Partly cloudy with high chance of showers and possible thunderstorm
- Tuesday: Min 8, Max 18 – Cloudy with medium chance of showers, most likely in the morning
