How WA’s border announcement will impact international travel.
Mark McGowan has announced the opening of WA’s border on February 5th next year, which means international travel is back and we’re just about ready to jet off right away.
But before you get any major holiday planning underway, there are a few things you need to know, with new testing requirements for arrivals being introduced to assist in the safe transition of COVID-19 entering the WA community.

All international arrivals will be subject to PCR testing pre-departure and on arrival.
If you’re double dosed and an international arrival, you’ll be required to:
- Proof of negative PCR test result within 72 hours prior of departure to WA
- Have a PCR test within 48 hours of arrival in WA and again on day six
Any double dose vaccinated arrivals will not be required to quarantine when they return and are not subject to the arrivals cap.
Unvaccinated travellers arriving internationally will be required to quarantine for 14 days, either in a designated hotel or the future quarantine facility.
All international travel into WA remains subject to the Commonwealth’s biosecurity and border settings – as that is the responsibility of the Commonwealth Government.
