The WA State Government’s reaction to the State’s first case of community transmission has captured the attention of the world.
It seems Mark McGowan’s immediate lockdown of Perth, Peel and surrounds is being noticed the world over.
The New York Times is among the publications that have turned their eyes on Perth and its COVID-19 lockdown.
“The speed and severity of the response may be unthinkable to people in the United States or Europe, where far larger outbreaks have often been met with half measures,” the NYT article said.
“The contrast with the United States and Europe — sharp at the start of the pandemic — has become even more marked with time. Fewer Australians have died in total (909) than the average number of deaths every day now in Britain and the United States.”
The article names Australia a “success story” against the virus, along with New Zealand, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
It comes as an Australian company today signed a deal with the Biden administration to deliver their rapid COVID-19 home tests to the US.
Australia again made US news headlines through the $300 million deal secured by the Brisbane-based company.
