Who will win the Melbourne Cup?

The one day of the year most people will tend to have a flutter and throw a few dollars on the cup – but how to make sense of all the noise out there and who will win?

The Melbourne Cup Favourites

Almandin (2)

Won it last year and most think he can do it again.

It’s the biggest race of the year and while 2 in a row is nearly impossible this horse is in fine form and currently at $9 is great value.

Current Odds: $9.00 on Neds

Marmelo (5)

My favourite for the cup.

Hugh Bowman riding him and has been having a great year. Finished 6th in the Caulfield Cup, but came from a long way back.

Look for him to sit back and if he can get a good run at the end he’s got as good a chance as any.

Current Odds: $7.50 on Neds (previously $8.00)

Mid Value Tips for the Melbourne Cup

Amelie’s Star (23)

Good odds and in my top 5 picks for the cup.

Can definitely go the distance and has looked good in most races recently excluding the Caulfield Cup.

Current Odds: $26.00 on Neds (previously $21.00)

Wall of Fire (20)

Well liked by most of the experts, ran well in the Caulfield Cup and with Craig Williams riding him expect to see a Top 5 finish and good value to back him to for the Cup.

Current Odds: $11.00 on Neds (previously $13.00)

Melbourne Cup Roughies

Nakeeta (18)

This horse has been in super form and in he has only finished outside the Top 4, 3 times in his last 15 starts.

Current Odds: $34.00 on Neds (previously $31.00)

Big Duke (13)

Great trainer in Darren Weir and has just won the St Leger following in the footsteps of Prince Of Penzance’s run back in 2015. Has to be considered.

Current Odds: $20.00 on Neds (previously $19.00)

Ventura Storm (10)

Good odds probably due to how bad it went in the Caulfield Cup. Great jockey in Glen Boss and not a bad barrier so maybe throw it in your trifecta.

Current Odds: $34.00 on Neds
