Southbound Fire Fundraiser – Huge amount raised for fire victims

Southbound organisers, bands, volunteers and Venues West have pulled together for a hugely successful last minute concert event for the WA fire disaster.

The ‘Southbound Fire Fundraiser’ event was organised Friday and delivered for thousands of people Sunday night in a huge effort to help those in need.

“We were utterly overwhelmed at the willingness of local businesses, suppliers, staff and our local and international artists who dropped everything to make this event happen last night,” Southbound said.

“The people of WA wasted no time throwing their support and money behind this event to help out our South West friends through this devastating time. We are ecstatic to announce we have raised over $150,000”

Bloc Party, Disclosure, and Birds of Toyko rocked HBF Stadium Sunday night.

Bands quickly came back together after Southbound 2016 was cancelled Thursday due to the fire.

Birds of Tokyo band members had gone back to other cities and returned to Perth at a moments notice to be part of the benifit.

“Everyone was scattered because we thought we had the weekend off,” bassist Ian Berney told Perth Now.

“Our drummer was in Brisbane, singer in Melbourne, guitarist in Sydney and crew all over. Within half-an-hour we were all ready to go. It was a no-brainer. These people are about to have a huge life change and they need the support of the government and community, and if we can do anything to help, we’ll do it.”
