The biggest AFL game in WA footy history is on this Saturday and West Coast will walk away the winners.

So upfront yes Melbourne did beat West Coast only a few weeks ago at Optus Stadium – however, a few things need to be taken into consideration with that win, which will affect the outcome of Saturday’s blockbuster.

Round 22: West Coast Eagles v Melbourne Demons Highlights

1. JK is back

If JK’s last quarter against the Pies is anything to go by he is back! Add in a week’s break to recover from his first game back, the idea of having to stop a fresh and now in touch JK will be daunting for Melbourne defence.

2. JD will play a whole game

Last time these 2 teams met JD was knocked out in the first 10 minutes. With JK and JD in the same attack, West Coast has not lost a game this season – having kicked 80 goals between them.

3. Rioli’s are made for finals

If it’s one thing we have learnt from recent AFL finals is that Rioli’s are made for the big stage and we have 1 and Melbourne have 0.

4. Yeo-Factor

While Melbourne has one of the hardest running and talented midfield groups in the AFL – none are on the same level as Elliot Yeo. Time and time again this season Yeo has been the bull that has driven West Coast over the line and no doubt the same will happen again after coming off an impressive 36 touches of which 24 were contested.

5. 2 rucks v 1 ruck

While Melbourne has arguably the best ruck in the competition, West Coast will have 2 quality ruckman in Lycett and Vardy to work Gawn over – especially if they are able to push forward and make Gawn defend.

It will be key for West Coast to take full advantage when Gawn is not in the ruck.

6. The mitts of McGovern

Melbourne loves to bomb the ball in long to McDonald and why not he is having a huge year for the Dees. However when this happens on Saturday don’t be surprised to see the #1 contested mark in the AFL gliding across to intercept.

Melbourne will have to find a way to stop McGovern, but in doing so they could then let Hurn off the leash.

It’s a case of choose your poison.

7. The crowd

The crowd was defining in the first round of the finals and with a grand final appearance up for grab or no tomorrow – you can be sure West Coast supporters will be in full voice and more to get the boys over the line and to put the pressure on the Dees.

We’ll be doing the Eagle Rock after the final siren.
