By now, Perth Wildcats fans are used to seeing Bryce Cotton do the extraordinary, but even they didn’t see this one coming.
Today, the Wildcats took on the New Zealand Breakers at RAC Arena. With Keanu Pinder out injured, the game could have been tougher than it was.
The Wildcats took an early lead through a monster first quarter and came out with the 123-112 victory. But, that’s not what got fans excited.
Back in 1987, James Crawford — aka The Alabama Slammer — set a Wildcat scoring record of 57 points in a single game (48-minute era). Today, that record no longer stands.
Bryce Cotton had the hot hand today and made it rain from all over the court, scoring an efficient 59 points, shooting 11 of 13 from inside the 3-point arc and seven of 15 from long range.
Those 59 points now sit as an all-time Perth Wildcats record and an NBL record in the 40-minute era. He is also now tied for 6th in the most points ever in an NBL game.
In his post-game interview, Cotton said “It’s amazing. It was fun for me. It was one of those games where the ball just kept falling.”
