Melbourne Cup Favourites

Who will win the Melbourne Cup in 2023? Looking at the field for the 2023 Melbourne Cup, TABtouch has outlined three standouts that are likely to win the Melbourne Cup.

Vauban

#5 | Barrier 3 | Odds $5.50 up from $4.50

Vauban has been well found in the market, particularly for a Melbourne Cup, but he shapes as a highly promising stayer who has worked brilliantly at Flemington and seems attractively weighted for a horse with his upside.

Gold Trip

#1 | Barrier 2 | Odds $8.50 up from $8.00

Gold Trip is proven at 3200m and appears to be going as well, if not better, than last year. Last spring, he ran a great second in the Caulfield Cup. One of the classiest in the race, an impressive stallion imported from France in 2021, where he’d come fourth in the mighty Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

Without A Fight

#3 | Barrier 16 | Odds $7.00 no change from $7.00

Without A Fight won the high-pressure Caulfield Cup second up. He should be further improved and Mark Zahra’s decision to ride him over Gold Trip could be a strong pointer to him running a strong 3200m now.

Past Melbourne Cup Winners

Dating back to 2010, there have been some surprise winners in the Melbourne Cup, from the $101.00 Prince Of Penzance in 2015 to the most recent $21.00 Gold Trip.

  • 2020 — Twilight Payment: $23.00
