The celebrated State Makers returns from April 17 to May 6 2021 at the State Buildings with an always-on program of captivating experiences, intriguing stories and most importantly – indulgent flavours.

From a far-flung wine adventure with Director of Wine, Emma Farrelly, to the creative exhibition of Chef Play – you will be immersed in a flourishing festival of togetherness as the resident artisans of the State Buildings are joined by a deliciously exciting line-up of Western Australian makers.

Highlights of the 2021 program include

A Day in the Valley (Saturday May 1)

Join award-winning Director of Wine, Emma Farrelly and an intimate group of wine enthusiasts for a rare grape-based adventure, unearthing the fascinating stories of the Swan Valley. Get to know the iconic and avant-garde winemakers dedicated to preserving the deep heritage and diversity of the valley, as you walk among the vines and taste new projects directly from tank and barrel.

Chef Play (Tuesday April 27)

Get ready for your favourite chefs of the State Buildings…UNLEASHED. From the gastronomic master himself, Executive Chef Kim Brennan, to Wildflower young gun, Sofika Bolton – the culinary line-up has been given one very simple brief…NO restrictions. NO holds barred. The rules are…there are NO rules. Just PLAY.

Five Years of Wildflower (Tuesday April 20)

Mastermind, Matthew Sartori welcomes you for an exquisite gastronomic evolution, featuring a curated collection of the most cherished Wildflower dishes from the last five years.

Bangkok Junket – Long Chim x Republic of Fremantle (Tuesday April 27 & Saturday May 1)

Throw on your white coat and prepare to mix it up, as Master Distiller, Ollie Kitson and globe-trotting bartender, Eoin Kenny guide you on a journey of gin discovery. Utilising Republic of Fremantle’s silky smooth spirit base distilled from Western Australian grapes, you’ll taste, discover and experiment with Thai botanicals and blend your very own 500ml bottle of bespoke gin to take home. Following this immersive experience, gather around the table for a Maa Long Chim feast accompanied by delicious drinks, as you hear the fascinating evolution of gin through the ages.

Petals & Pét Nat (Saturday April 17)

Hosted by award-winning Director of Wine, Emma Farrelly and resident floral expert, Karli Davies of Fox & Rabbit, this intriguing masterclass will explore two of nature’s most delicious fruits of the earth – wine and flowers. Emma will talk you through all things pét nat, as you design your very own arrangement of stunning seasonal blooms to take home, guided by passionate petal master, Karli.

Petition x Coogee Common Vegan Feast (Thursday April 22)

Petition Head Chef Simon Bow welcomes Coogee Common’s Chris Eales behind the Petition pass for a deliciously exciting collaboration celebrating sustainable, plant-based eating. Guests will enjoy a five-course vegan feast featuring freshly harvested ingredients from Coogee Common’s kitchen garden, paired with natural drops from wild child winemakers, Si Vintners.
