Swan River Ferry Service

There are plans set for a Swan River Ferry Service, to take the public from Elizabeth Quay in Perth City to Perth Stadium in Burswood, along with other destinations up and down the river.

The State Government has been looking into the creation of Swan River ferry locations from Fremantle to Guildford and various jetty stops in-between.

The plan is to create a jetty at Burswood, close to the new Perth Stadium, to allow a Swan River ferry service to take patrons from the city and back.

The jetty would also allow private boats to land and drop off or pick up sports patrons.

There may also be private companies running services similar to those seen on Melbourne’s Yarra River, provided for MCG sports fans.

A service running to Guilford would also be created, with a jetty offering private and public transport river options for Perth.

“We see scope for further expansion of those services and also we’ll work with private proponents who want to increase charter and tourist operations along our river,” Colin Barnett told the ABC.

“Perth loves its river, it’s a fantastic part of our lifestyle, it’s healthy, it’s in good condition and we can use it more.”

The Premier said $3 million would be allocated for the purchase of a third public transport ferry to provide the capability for a public ferry service to Perth Stadium during special events.

There will also be a exploration into options of other river ferry services.

This could include a hop-on hop-off ferry loop service linking Elizabeth Quay, Waterbank, Claisebrook Cove, Belmont Park, South Perth and Burswood Peninsular as well as a service between Canning Bridge, Matilda Bay and Elizabeth Quay.

The first jetty, for Burswood, would be in place by the end of 2018.
