Telstra Perth Fashion Festival 2015 – Your Ultimate Guide

It’s the most exciting week on the Perth fashion calendar – Telstra Perth Fashion Festival begins September 15 and by the look of this year’s program, it’s going to be better than ever! While designers put the finishing touches on their collections, fashionistas carefully plan their all important outfits and preparations are coming down to the line for each event, I thought I would take a look at some of the must see events on this year’s calendar. From the free runway shows to the ticketed designer runways, there’s something for everyone to be a part of this Telstra Perth Fashion Festival. If you can get along to every show, then I recommend you do it! Each show this year is offering something different – established designers, International visitors and brands we have become to know and love. However if you can only get along to one or two shows, I thought I would put together the Top 5 shows I am personally most excited about and some reasons why you should attend the Festival this year and get excited about Perth fashion! Opening Night: Dilettante Tuesday September 15, 7pm, Perth Concert Hall The opening night of anything is always guaranteed to be buzzing, and this event will be no exception. Dilettante, a Perth boutique known for it’s avant garde style, will be presenting 3 of it’s best designers – 33 Poets, Toni Maticevski and Yang Li. The show is guaranteed to be an exhibit of creativity and experimental designs and if anything, you should get along to this show just to see Toni Maticevski’s works of art make their debut on a TPFF runway.

WA Designer Runway 1 and 2

Wednesday September 16, 9:30pm / Saturday September 19, 7pm, Perth Concert Hall

Spread across two nights because Perth has so much talent (how awesome is that!), the WA Designer Runway shows will surprise and amaze you, as well as open your eyes to the talent we have coming out of Perth.

These shows are my favourite because they give us the opportunity to see the creations from Perth’s incredible emerging designers.

My picks of designers from the two nights that you should become acquainted with are Alexandra King, Intimates by Monique, Blushed by Teagan Jacobs, Curious Birdy and Jonte Designs.

Jaime Lee Thursday September 17, 8pm, Perth Concert Hall If you’re yet to feast your eyes upon the incredible work of Jaime Lee, then you are missing out big time! With local, national and international acclaim under her belt and a celebrity “I’ve designed for’ list including the likes of Kimbra, Katy Perry and Taryn Manning, Jaime Lee just gets better and better with each unique, bejewelled piece she creates. Her SS16 collection is inspired by Japanese theme parks and if that doesn’t get you excited, then I’m not sure what will! My show pick of the week.

Future Runway

Friday September 18, 7pm, Perth Concert Hall

The future runway show is another exciting one as it represents all the incredible WA talent in the ranks and is our chance to support the best design students our University and Institutions have to offer.

Each student sends their original designs and creations down the runway which can range from Ready to Wear, menswear, evening wear and costume design.

A show where you don’t really know what to expect to see – exciting!

All fittings fittings fittings today! Best day 🙂 @telstraperthfashionfestival #TPFF #futurerunway

Phuong My Friday September 18, 9:30pm, Perth Concert Hall While there’s always a Perth focus at TPFF each year, it’s exciting to have an international presence too and this year, we are celebrating the international contribution from Vietnamese designer Phuong My. Phuong My, who is not only a designer but a stylist for the likes of Harpers Bazaar and Elle, will show her SS16 collection on the TPFF runway. Think femininity, florals, pastels, silk and chiffon – an absolutely dreamy combination and a collection I know I am definitely dying to see.

Free Telstra Perth Fashion Festival Shows

If the ticketed runway shows aren’t your thing, there are plenty of free shows being held across the city that are worth checking out too!

My picks of the free events are:

  • Target Runway, Sunday September 20 at 1pm in Forrest Chase
  • Melissa Shoes, Saturday September 19 at 4pm in Forrest Chase
  • Perth Airport Style Runway, Sunday September 20 at 3pm in Forrest Chase
  • Restyle Runway, Friday September 18 and 20 in Forrest Chase
  • M J Bale, Friday September 18 at 2pm in Brookfield Place

Whilst we may not be able to pull the same “street cred” of our New York and Paris counterparts just yet – Perth is gaining a reputation of it’s own for producing high quality designers, models and stylists.

It’s an exciting time for Perth fashion, and it is only going to grow as the support for the industry continues.

Hopefully everyone will be able to get to some form of show at this year’s Telstra Perth Fashion Festival – it’s a incredible event each and every year and a fantastic way to support the incredible talent we have in our city.

See you there!
