The latest Perth Coronavirus cancellation announcement will rock you to your West Aussie core.

Bunnings have regretfully decided to can all sausage sizzles until further notice due to increased calls for social distancing to stop the spread of Coronavirus.

Silver Lining

While it’s RIP to your favourite weekend ritual (for now at least), it’s not all bad news for community groups with Bunnings committed to donating gift cards to help raise much needed funds.

This statement from Bunnings Managing Director Mike Schneider:

“Having listened closely to community groups, we’ve learned of the challenges many groups are facing finding volunteers and even supplies to sell given some of the reported challenges being faced by other retailers. We also want to make sure our team remain focused on helping customers to access the products they need.

We won’t be seeing one of these for a while in Perth, thanks to Coronavirus

“We absolutely understand the important role these sausage sizzles play for thousands of local community groups and charities and that finding alternative fundraising opportunities at short notice isn’t easy. To assist community groups who have sausage sizzles booked over the next month, our store teams will donate $500 gift cards to these local organisations to assist with their fundraising activities. Across Australia and NZ, this represents an investment into local communities of over $1.2m.

“There’s no doubt that our decision will disappoint some people in the community and we can’t wait to bring this much-loved community program back,” Mike said.

Understatement. It’s the end of life as we know it – but let’s face it, if we’re all confined to our homes we wouldn’t have been able to get our hands on a snag anyway.

Plus, it still could be worse.

What else we lose in Perth to Coronavirus?

Put out your sauce bottles. This is getting serious.
