ALL HAIL PERTH WILDCATS!! The NBL Championship trophy returns to WA thanks to our unbelievably great Perth Wildcats team.

They have done it again! The Wildcats have thrashed the New Zealand Breakers by 23 points in game three of the Grand Final series to secure their SEVENTH (record breaking) Championship, in their 30th consecutive finals campaign. AMAZING!!

I was fortunate enough to be at the game and it was one of the best sporting events I have been to. The #RedArmy was phenomenal and the atmosphere inside Perth Arena was out of this world. I have heard that Perth host a NBL game like no other in the league, and it was easy to see why on Sunday night. The sell out crowd was almost deafening (in a good way) and it really brought the whole experience to another level.

The Wildcats had a 2-point lead over New Zealand at quarter time and they continued to raise the bar for the entirety of the game. The Breakers had no answers for the aggressive defence of Damian Martin, the absolute power of Nate Jawai or the scoreboard damage from Jermaine Beal and Casey Prather.

Anyone who watches the NBL would know that Wildcats skipper Damian Martin is one heck of a passionate player and an incredible defender. His work during the game was purely inspirational. I was in awe watching him dominate on the court. And that is why he was named MVP of the finals series. He was an absolute standout and the award could not have gone to a more deserving player. (During his MVP acceptance speech Damo announced that he and his partner are expecting their first child! Another big congrats!)

New Zealand’s star guard Cedric Jackson was fouled out early in the final quarter and failed to score a point for the game. Tom Abercrombie was the only Breaker who seemed to get anywhere on the scoreboard, finishing on 21 points.

It had been a gruelling week for both teams in terms of travel, however the Wildcats showed no signs of fatigue during the match and over-ran the Breakers more and more as the game went on.

The seventh Championship win extends the Wildcats record as the most successful NBL team in history. Massive congratulations to the Perth Wildcats!!

On a side note:

Amongst all of the Wildcats celebration posts on social media etc, an old-school video has surfaced called the Wildcat Rap, performed by the Wildcats team in 1989. I will leave it right here for you to check out… I had a good giggle! I would love to see a re-make with the current team!
