Taking a deeper look at Boomers v Dream Team matchup
The big question on everyone’s lips – can Australia beat the USA?
Well, we already did in the lead up to the Olympics, however, that was merely a warmup/tune-up for each team.
In the history of match ups between the two basketball nations, Australia has only beat the USA Dream Team twice, which just so happens to be the last two times they have faced each other.
What makes this even more impressive for Basketball Australia is that the Dream Team has only lost 14 games in total and has won 197 games.
In the group phase, the USA (102.5) was the second-highest scoring team behind Slovenia while Australia (89) was third. On the defensive end, however, Australia (71.3) gave up the least amount of points with the USA (78.5) the third best.
The contrasting styles suggest that Australia will have the bring the defensive pressure in the semi-final if they are any chance to reduce the offensive threats of the USA and capture the win.
