Walking trails in Perth for your four-legged BFFs.

There is an abundance of glorious walking trails within an hour’s drive of Perth, yet finding a Perth dog-friendly walking trail to enjoy with your pooch pals can be somewhat of a difficult task.

Any fellow dog owner will relate to the guilt we get when we leave our best friends of the four-legged variety at home as we head out on a walk.  Well, we are here to tell you that you won’t need to feel guilty, and your pups won’t have to miss out!  No digging for ideas necessary, here are our top tips for doggo friendly trails near Perth. 

Bold Park | Sanctuary By The Sea

Bold Park is a convenient pocket of beautiful bushland tucked neatly between the CBD and City Beach, and provides a variety of hiking trails for the four-legged companion to enjoy.

From 500m to the full 5km Zamia Trail, the views are brilliant, and the dogs will thank you for the adventure. We recommend parking along Perry Lakes Drive, rather than on Reabold Hill. 

Whistlepipe Gully

Named after a whistlepipe that was lost in the gully (Who would have guessed), this woodland wander will take you on a 3.5km adventure over bridges, across the gully, and to granite outcrops with magical city views. 

The Whistlepipe Gully trail is located in Forrestfield, in the Perth Hills and is a favourite for the locals.

Make your way to the end of Lewis Road to find the best spot to get started on your trail adventures. If your dog loves a good splash, this will be a winner in the winter and spring months. 

Bells Rapids

Located in the heart of the Swan Valley, this Perth dog-friendly walking trail is a beautiful waterfront trail that will give your pooch plenty of opportunities to rock hop and run free on their adventures.

This spot offers walkers the chance to enjoy a meander along the river of 3km return, or head up on a more challenging hike along the Goat Trail for a 5km loop.

Bells Rapids is renowned for its perfect pooch-friendly hiking, so make sure you add this one to your weekend adventures list.

Jorgensen Park 

This is a very popular spot for dog meet-ups and with wide-open spaces to run, leap, and chase, it is no surprise! 

This old golf course is a perfect spot for a touch of country in the middle of Kalamunda and provides a beginner-friendly 3km loop trail to enjoy.  Be careful which trail you take on this one though, as the trail easily diverts onto the Bibbulmun track, which at 1000km in length from Kalamunda to Albany, could take you on one very long detour. 

Not just that, but dogs are not permitted on the Bibbulmun, so make sure to plan your walk before arriving.

Sixty Foot Falls 

If you are after something with some challenging steps and great views, then this is the one for you.

Located in Ellis Brook Valley in Gosnells, you can head out to this Perth dog-friendly walking trail with your dogs by your side for a 2km or 5 km adventure through the Old Barrington Quarry, and up to the top of Sixty Foot Falls. 

Lesmurdie Falls

An oldie but a goodie, Lesmurdie Falls will take you and your doggy pal on a choose your own adventure as you wander by the waters edge, and enjoy a variety of trails around the falls.

Explore the falls from below and start at the lower Lesmurdie Falls car park where you will also find picnic tables and a spot for the dogs to chase the ball by the water, or park up the top for a sunset view over the city skyline, and a longer 5km loop trail around to the foot of the falls.

Trigg Bushland

For the ocean lovers of Perth, may we draw attention to this little hidden gem of perfect dog walking heaven.

Trigg Bushland is home to parabolic sand dunes, making it a globally unique highlight and sitting right next to Trigg beach, you can enjoy the best of both worlds.

Enjoy a 4km loop for dogs and beginner explorers alike and remember to stop at the beach after for a cool down, or to take in a stunning west coast sunset. 

FR Berry Reserve & Noble Falls, Gidgegannup 

This is a two for one combo if you are interested in a trip out to Gidgegannup for two fantastic dog-friendly trails.

FR Berry Walk Trail is a 2.8km loop along the Wooroloo Brook. It covers an area of 214 hectares and is the largest of the City of Swan’s nature reserves. 

After this, we recommend heading the short drive to Noble Falls, which will give you an equally beautiful hike of about 3.5km along the Wooroloo Brook and past the Noble Falls.  

Tips for safe walking 

Although there are some trails that allow dogs off lead, we recommend always keeping dogs on leads in regional parks to keep them safe from baits and snakes.  

Dogs are prohibited from entering National Parks, so while there are plenty of amazing Regional Park dog trails, make sure you know where a regional Park meets a National Park, and plan ahead. 

Not all Perth dog friendly walking trails will provide doggie bags, so always bring supplies to pick up your poochie poop and keep our parks and trails sparkling clean for future use.
