Good Boy: A Designer Dog-Friendly Beach Shack Opens in Jurien Bay

A stylish new beach shack in Jurien Bay is proving that pet-friendly stays can be luxurious too — and it’s made for all the good boys (and girls), with or without fur.

A stylish new coastal escape has landed in Jurien Bay, and it’s got tails wagging. Good Boy, a pet-friendly, adults-only beach shack, has officially opened its doors just 220 kilometres north of Perth, bringing a calming, design-forward retreat for humans and hounds alike.

Only a five-minute walk from Jurien Bay Marine Park, this two-bedroom stay blends retro charm with the comforts we’ve come to expect, creating the perfect base for salty days and slow mornings.

The inspiration behind Good Boy? A yellow labradoodle named Henry, who has long strolled the beaches of Jurien Bay with dignity and restraint, never once digging up the garden or jumping on the couch.

His owner, affectionately known as Henry’s Mum, explains:

“We have created a calming haven for those with or without dogs. I wanted to create a holiday space that has all the premium comforts of home and retains the retro essence of Jurien Bay. Sure, you can stay here if you have a dog, but our gorgeous beach shack is for all good boys and girls – regardless of their fur or fur-parental status.”

Retro vibes meet beachside luxury

Thoughtfully restored and intentionally styled, Good Boy doesn’t skimp on the luxuries. Plush bedding, soft linen, commissioned art, and top-tier appliances are all part of the package.

“Everything at Good Boy has been carefully considered, while retaining the beach shack feel,” she says.

“We have intentionally retained some of the original wooden textures, while incorporating new elements through furniture, blinds and king-sized bed selection. The retro essence of Jurien Bay comes through in the colour palettes of our new retro green kitchen and beach blue exterior.”

Pampered pooches welcome

Four-legged guests are treated to an array of thoughtful touches, including peanut butter dog biscuits, food and water bowls, toys, and even an outdoor shower for post-beach rinses. It’s a welcome change for dog owners tired of sacrificing style for pet-friendly stays.

Meanwhile, the humans aren’t forgotten either. The pantry is stocked with essentials like olive oil, salt, pepper, and spreads, ensuring all the small comforts of home are at your fingertips.

David O’Malley, CEO of Australia’s Coral Coast, says demand for pet-friendly getaways is surging.

“We are seeing increased traffic to the pet-friendly section on our website as local travellers seek to road trip with their dogs.”

“Located on Indian Ocean Drive and Coral Coast Highway road trip itineraries, many West Aussies have a nostalgic memory from holidaying up in Jurien Bay and we have something new to offer those who might typically visit other destinations.”

“It is about slowing down and connecting with nature – and your loved one – which is more appealing today than it ever has been.”

For those yet to (re)discover Jurien Bay, this stretch of WA’s Coral Coast is known for its crystal-clear waters, sea lion encounters, and proximity to iconic sites like the Pinnacles in Nambung National Park. Seasonal wildflowers, empty beaches, and a laid-back pace make it an ideal destination for those wanting nature, nostalgia, and a bit of beachside serenity.
