It’s a must to tick off your WA bucket list, and totally worth the very early wake-up call to head out in the crisp morning air and soak in a golden sunrise.

Here is everything you need to know about a hot air balloon ride in the Avon Valley.

Where do you fly?

You’ll take off from Northam Airfield and soar over rural landscapes, green fields, winding streams, and rolling hills in Avon Valley.

Haven’t seen The Avon Valley before? To paint a picture for you, it could probably pose as a postcard for the country with its dotted historic towns and scenery. It’s just a small hour and a half drive from Perth and has historically been known as an agricultural region, now featuring as a big drawcard for tourists and locals searching for a reprieve from the hustle and bustle.

What’s included in the flight?

To ease the early morning feels, tea and coffee will await you on your arrival at Northam Airfield while your pilot runs through a quick brief.

Then, you’ll head over to the launch site and get to assist with the inflation of the balloons. All aboard, you’ll pop on and be on your way off to a surreal flight just before first light hits.

Watch the world wake up below you as you enjoy a peaceful cruise, then after landing enjoy a lavish breakfast featuring fruits, pastries, cheese, and a full cooked plate washed down with champagne.

How many people can fit in the hot air balloon?

There can be up to 20 other people in the basket with you at one time.

How long is the session?

You’ll have to allow between 4-5 hours for the full experience, including balloon inflation, flight, getting back to your car and a champagne breakfast.

The flight itself lasts for 45 minutes to an hour.

What do I wear and bring?

Casual and comfortable clothing is recommended, so pull out some sneakers and jeans. Make sure you dress according to the weather, eg: rug up if it’s going to be chilly. Shoes need to be flat and enclosed, and a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen are a must.

What about the weather?

In the case of strong winds or heavy rain your booking may be cancelled are rescheduled for a later date. Flights won’t run during the warmer months of December to March due to unstable weather conditions.
