Construction is underway for Busselton’s newest sweet spot, Little Otto’s Big Choc Shop. Brought to life by Left Coast Leisure Group, the local family-owned parent company of Shelter Brewing Co, Little Otto’s will take pride of place on Busselton Foreshore, reactivating the old tennis club building.
Inspired by Otto, the big blue whale
The story goes that the name comes from the big blue whale found beached near the mouth of Vasse River in August 1897. The same whale whose 24-metre skeleton now hangs in WA Museum Boola Bardip.
The story of Otto and Daisy — the young girl who found him — is the inspiration behind Little Otto’s Big Choc Shop. The Busselton addition is set to be a family-focused venue that doesn’t take itself too seriously. An addition that will no doubt attract more locals and visitors to the area.
“We’re local ourselves with young families and we’re fiercely proud of Busselton. We are invested in, and committed to, making it a great place to live and to visit, for all the family,” Asher Packard-Hair, one of LCLG’s six directors said.
“It’s all about fun and excitement because chocolate creates happiness, and so does ice cream. We are developing various fun activations that will encourage interaction between adults and kids — watch this space!”
Asher is joined by brother Zeb, along with Matt, Jason, Mike, and Chris Credaro as the six directors from two fourth-generation Busselton families.
Daisy’s Gelato
The 500-square-metre venue will create chocolates and sweet treats with state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment imported from Italy, as well as Daisy’s Gelato — a new sub-brand making fresh gelato flavoured with local ingredients.
“We’ve just bought a local gelateria that we’re using for off-site research and development for Daisy’s Gelato ahead of Little Otto’s opening,” Packard-Hair said.
“The design of Little Otto’s includes a gelato window so people can enjoy a stroll along the beautiful Busselton Foreshore, or play in the epic Pirate Ship playground just opposite.”
It will be designed by award-winning WA architect Paul Burnham, who was behind the design of fellow hospitality and retail venues including Shelter Brewing Co, Little Creatures in Fremantle, and Cottesloe’s Il Lido.
Little Otto’s Big Choc Shop is scheduled to open around Easter 2025.
