Rottnest Island has had a glamping makeover.

Spoil yourself with a Rottnest Island glamping experience.

Those camping holidays we all remember taking on Rottnest Island as kids have had a very luxe, adult makeover with the unveiling of the brand-new, $25 million dollar Discovery Rottnest eco-resort.

Nestled behind the dunes at the famous Pinkys Beach, the minimal impact resort has been a long time coming. It is the first new-build on the island in 30 years, and the Discovery team have done a stellar job at integrating the resort with the look and feel of the existing establishments. The 83 tents and open-air beach club really have the sense of a luxury resort, without losing the laid-back essence of Rottnest that we all know and love.

On March 1st, the glamping resort will throw open its doors to welcome its first public guests. There has been a flurry of action on the booking page with just a few tents left in the month of March.

Here is why you should get on to booking one for yourself sooner rather than later…

All you need to bring with you are your bathers…

Bathers and whatever else it is you plan on wearing while on the island, that is. The glamping tents at Discovery Rottnest pretty much have everything else covered for you.

Unlike the campsite just next door, you can walk straight into your tent and feel right at home. There is no need to bring all your linens along, nor the need to trek it to the ablution block to have a shower. Even the most basic of options has its own ensuite complete with all the hotel amenities.

Spend a little more each night and you can get yourself a superior or deluxe tent. These tents have a lot more floor space and a little kitchenette with a sink, bar fridge and microwave too.

As a standard, all the tents come with at least a queen-sized bed, a bathroom, a ceiling fan and power.

It is more affordable than you might think…

Discovery Rottnest may have the ‘resort’ tag, but doesn’t mean that you are going to be paying exorbitant prices to stay.

You can get yourself one of the standard, 2-people tents from just $119.00 per night. Compare it to the $76.00 (off season) price tag on the basic Caroline Thompson huts just behind the resort, or the other hotels on the island starting from around $200.00 per night (off season), and Discovery Rottnest really is quite decently priced.

Just like other accommodation on the island, prices do jump during peak season though, so book your stay over these periods early to get the best deal.

You might hit the jackpot and land tent number 3…

Rottnest Island Glamping - Discovery Rottnest - Deluxe

If you book yourself in to one of the deluxe tents far enough in advance, the chances of you scoring a stay in the jewel of Discovery Rottnest’s crown are high.

Tent number 3 has it all. A walk-in robe, his and hers bathroom sinks, a gold showerhead and tapware, and the best views in the house. The only two things between you and the stunning views of Pinky Beach are your glass sliding doors and a boardwalk. You actually forget that you are essentially sleeping in a canvas tent.

As nice as a stay in tent number 3 would be, it isn’t the only tent you want to keep on your radar. Tent number 1 has the next best ocean view, but you do get a glimpse of the ocean from the decks of all the deluxe tents.

The Pinky’s Beach Club cocktails alone are worth the ferry ride over…

Cocktails at Rottnest Island

You don’t have to be a guest at the resort to get your hands on the delicious fare at Pinky’s Beach club, but booking an overnight stay means you can catch the sunset and know you have somewhere to retire for the night close by.

Having a room nearby is particularly handy after a few of the signature Rottnest Island Iced Teas. With all the long island essentials (read: a lot of liquor), topped up with an aromatic tonic and garnished with local rosemary from by the primary school, this local take on the much-loved cocktail packs a punch. If a the Rottnest Island iced tea doesn’t tickle your fancy, try one of the WA negronis or any one of the delicious local wines and beers they have on the menu.

There is space to bring the kids…

Family glamping Rottnest

Just because you have little tackers (or slightly bigger tackers) in tow, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the resort. Discovery Rottnest is all about encouraging community, and having accommodation for families on site is all a part of that.

Sure, you might not get a spot in one of the deluxe tents in the dunes – they are reserved for the couple getaways – but there are plenty of superior tents that cater for couples with kiddies. Nestled under the tuart trees, these tents have an additional little annex with a bunk and trundle to accommodate for any extras in your care.

In what may be music to mum and dad’s ears, there is also a pool and pool bar right next to the beach club. That means endless hours of supervised play for the little ones, even after it is time to leave the beach.
