Sunday Club: Your Sunday, Your Way In Scarborough

After a week of being stuck in the office in the nine-to-five grind, Sundays should be for actually doing what you want to do. Not what’s on your to-do list. And certainly not what’s left in your inbox.

It could be a slow start with a hot coffee, a long lunch with a cold beer, a swim in the ocean, or a swing of the golf clubs. However you like to spend the last day of the week, Scarborough is where you’ll want to be doing it.

With world-class beaches, nearby inland leafy gardens, and rooftop dining precincts, every corner of the coastal playground invites you to do more you, whatever that might look like. Here’s how every kind of character can spend their Sunday in Scarborough and surrounds.

For the slow starters

On Sundays, you should be able to ease into the morning at your own pace. Start with a leisurely stroll along the Lake Gwelup Story Trail, where native flora, wildlife, and Whadjuk Noongar storytelling installations turn a simple stroll into something more meaningful.

From there, follow the seductive scent of freshly brewed coffee to Strollio’s, Tuart Hill’s nostalgic luncheonette, where a potent cup of Joe is sure to get the morning going. Here, you’ll find pantry staples so you can stock up for the weekend, plus stacked sandwiches and pastries baked in-house.
Prefer your caffeine with a view? Trigg Island Market is open from 8:30 am each Sunday for breakfast and brews (and bubbles, if that’s your style) right on the water, and Little Wave is the cosy cafe-meets-wine-bar that you didn’t know you needed in your life until now.

For the Sunday go-getters

If your idea of a Sunday reset involves sweating, surfing, or swinging golf clubs, Scarborough’s got you covered. Hugging the Indian Ocean all the way up the coast to Sorrento, the much-loved Sunset Coast Walk is made for morning jogs, afternoon bike rides, or casual dog walks. Or, trade your sneakers for a surfboard and try your hand at catching a wave with Go Surf or Scarborough Beach Surf School.

Want to keep your feet on the ground? The Hamersley Public Golf Course’s 18 holes, manicured lawns, and driving range bays are an excellent option for a bit of friendly competition. The driving range is perfect if you’re new to golf — there are interactive games that you can play, and it’s the only driving range locally where you can get food and drinks delivered straight to your bay from Caddys.

And if all else fails, sitting and steaming in Alchemy Saunas or a cold beer overlooking the Indian Ocean at Froth Craft Brewery is not a bad way to spend your Sunday.

For the culture chases

The beating cultural heart of the City of Stirling can be found on Beaufort Street in Mount Lawley. Since 1915, the Astor Theatre has been hosting bands, solo artists, comedians, motivational speakers, and more in the two-story art deco space, entertaining the masses week after week.

Of course, it goes without saying that no night at the theatre is complete without a pre-show pasta and plonk right around the corner at Bar Vino

For the social butterflies

For some people, Sunday calls for one final hurrah. To send off the weekend in style, make a beeline for Karrinyup’s West Deck, the rooftop precinct that blends leisure, games, and dining. There’s bowling, mini golf, and arcade games to keep the Sunday scaries at bay for hours, but it’s the dining option that has us returning weekend after weekend.

Ciao Dandy will satisfy any Sunday pasta cravings, Good Company delivers premium pizzas and pints, and Authentic Bites Dumpling House is a reliable choice if you want to keep things casual. Before you head home, treat yourself to a little something from San Churro or YoChi, because every weekend should end on a sweet note.
