The University of Western Australia has once again been ranked among the world’s top 100 universities.

The Center for World-Class Universities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University today released the 2015 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), which is considered to be one of the most trustworthy of its kind, and has been presenting the best 500 universities on the planet, based on transparent methodology and third-party data, since 2003.

The top ten was dominated by American institutions (Harvard, Stanford and Massachusetts Institute of Technology ranking 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively), rivalled only by traditional British heavyweights Cambridge (5) and Oxford (10).

Coming in at 87th, UWA was the sole Western Australian university to make it into the top 100, alongside interstate counterparts The University of Melbourne (44), The Australian National University (equal 77) and The University of Queensland (equal 77). It continues to set a benchmark for tertiary education in WA, with its research-intensive focus and notable alumni such as Nobel Prize laureate Barry Marshall earning it a solid reputation. Its longer-term aim is to be classified among the world’s top 50 universities by 2050.
