The Elford — Mt Lawley

The Elford

The corner of Beaufort Street and Grosvenor Road has been a drinking address for well over a century. The Clarke’s Building — art deco, two storeys, built in 1934 — has housed a pub in some form ever since, passing through several names before Three Pound Group acquired the site in 2020 and spent a year restoring it. The name honours George H. Elford, who ran a wine saloon on Beaufort Street in the early 1900s.

The food is pub fare done with a bit more attention, and the beverage list follows the same thinking, ensuring there’s something for any palate.

There’s a street-facing deck that fills quickly on sunny days and warm evenings. The Elford still feels like a local, but it also works as a destination for something more considered.
