Perth Scorchers look to fire up for Sunday’s Televised Game

The WBBL Perth Scorchers are fired up for another bout against Hobart Sunday morning, after showing some entertaining prowess in their season opener Saturday in North Sydney.

The Perth Scorchers went out hard at North Sydney Oval for WBBL02, with Katherine Brunt starring.

Brunt was on fire, slotting consecutive 4’s and throwing up a few 6’s to start her WBBL02 season in style.

The 32-year-old Englishwoman hit 41 runs off 24 balls in the first innings, wowing the crowd in the Harbour City.

The Scorchers ladies managed 119 runs in total, losing six after 20 overs.

Brunt nearly made it to the end, dismissed by Hobart’s Satterthwaite in the 19th over.

Elyse Villani and Suzie Bates were first at the crease for game 1 of WBBL02 for 2016/17, after the Hobart Hurricanes won the toss and elected to field.

Hobart’s Matthews opened the bowling with Elyse facing the first ball of the day.

Suzie Bates started off with the first four of the season, but she was out a few overs later for 14.

It really was Katherine Blunt who made the difference, taking Perth from 77 runs to 119 with just 4-overs left in the first innings, thanks to her big hitting.

With a score set to chase, Hobart came out swinging.

Rebecca Grundy opened up the bowling for Perth, however Hobart managed to rack up 72 runs with no wickets taken after 9 overs.

With West Indies International star Hayley Matthews taking control (she smashed 48 off 38 balls), it was hard going for Perth.

It was newly signed New Zealander Suzie Bates who broke through.

The Scorchers captain managed to rally her troops, dismissing Redmayne with a tactical bowl caught by Emma Biss in the field.

Soon after, Suzie Bates was at it again, seeing off Matthews with a great yorker.

Then, Katherine Brunt took some revenge for her earlier out, this time as a bowler, dismissing Satterthwaite for 7.

Suddenly it was 4-97 in the 15th over, with a beautiful runout by the Scorchers from a field throw, direct hit.

With 24 deliveries left, Hobart needed 18 runs to win.

With just 9 balls left in the game, Rebecca Grundy took out Hall, caught by Elyse Villani.

But it wasn’t enough, with Hobart winning with 5 players to spare.

Hobart’s Hayley Matthews, from Barbados, was named woman of the match.

Tomorrow’s game will be Live on Channel 10 in Perth from 7AM WST, the first live game for the Perth Scorchers of the season. You can also tune in via Cricket.com.au
