This season, I am going to put a little bit of a fashionable spin on the cricket (all puns intended).

Gone are the days of cricket being a “boring” sport that “only boys watch” – the Big Bash League has kicked off a new era of fast, exciting cricket! In the words of one of my fashion blogger friends who doesn’t have a sporting bone in her body and came along to her first game last week – “that was actually really fun and not as bad as I thought it would be”.  The games last 3 hours, there’s fireworks, pumping music, you can get a killer tan and the atmosphere is absolutely buzzing. It also definitely helps that Perth’s own Scorchers are the reigning champions two years in a row.

I for one am happily trading my heels for some days out at the cricket this summer and you should too!

When it comes to deciding what to wear to a day at the cricket, you need to be prepared for a day in the sun and for maximum comfort, but of course, you want to look stylish too. I’ve teamed up with local Perth photographer Grace Robinson to create a mini-LookBook to help all you girls put together cricket outfits depending on what part of the ground you will be spending your day at the cricket. Let me tell you – Cricket attire doesn’t have to mean denim shorts, thongs and an orange t-shirt (because, go Scorchers!).

First up, some outfits you can put together if you will be watching the game in a more casual way, from the seats in the sun or on the grass bank (my personal favourite).

The Sun Dress

What’s better for a day in the sun than a white sun dress? Maximum comfort levels, nice and breezy for when it gets that little bit too hot (thanks, Perth!) and cute enough to give a girlie spin (there’s that pun again) for some cricket attire. Team it back with a hat to protect you from the direct sun, and you’ve got yourself a nice little outfit that is great for the cricket but also can take you out afterwards.

The Shorts and Sneakers Combo

Sneakers are well and truly back in fashion at the moment and what better to wear than while you’re watching SPORTS! Some black shorts and a black tank make the perfect sneaker-cricket-watching companion and a denim jacket adds some laid back cool for when the sun disappears and the evening sets in.

Members Section

If you snag tickets in the Member Section, things get a little bit more serious with what you can and can’t wear. Cricket’s upper class history continues to this day, with the Members’ Stands respecting strict dress codes with an up market, casual approach.  For the girls, this means, according to the WACA Dress Code, nothing above the knee and a modest blouse or top with sleeves. Pretty simple to adhere all while staying stylish, so not much to worry about!

Jeans and T-shirt

Who said that jeans and a t-shirt combination has to be casual? This smart casual outfit is pretty simple to put together with existing wardrobe pieces, and the black blazer addition gives a sophisticated vibe to this look.

The Dressy Look

It’s nice to get dressed up sometimes, so if you’re lucky enough to have one of the super nice seats at the cricket (air conditioning, what a blessing), you might want to take a dressier approach to your outfit. This all white combo is perfect to reflect the ultimate cricket vibes and is interchangeable with black jeans or a black tank.

Looking forward to watching the Scorchers this season and introducing the world of fashion to the world of sport. Hopefully the cricket will have a wider audience of fans by the time I’m done!

Go Scorchers!
