What’s showing at Yirra Yaakin?
Thirst by Barbara Hostalek
First up is the romantic comedy Thirst. Running from April 29th until May 10th, this one is for anyone who has ever lived in a regional town or fantasised about a tree change. Set in a country pub on the brink of shutting up shop, it’s an intimately tender work that explores connection to place, with genuine laugh-out-laugh moments and sing-along songs peppered throughout.

7 Stages of Grieving by Wesley Enoch and Deborah Mailman
Then comes the iconic and deeply moving 7 Stages of Grieving — Wesley Enoch and Deborah Mailman’s seminal work of First Nations theatre that remains just as powerful and poetic today as it was when it first premiered in 1995. Running from July 3rd to 12th, this culturally profound text takes audiences on an emotional journey through grief, resistance and healing, with a performance that’s equal parts confronting and cathartic.

Heart is a Wasteland by John Harvey
Rounding out the season is the cross-country love story Heart is a Wasteland, hitting the road from October 18th to November 1st. Country-music starlet Raye takes the audience on a road trip through Australia’s heartland, and like all great road trips, it’s soulful, a little messy, and full of detours.
