Summer X Salt Markets have just announced they’re returning to Clarko Reserve in Trigg from October 24th to March 20th, with this season spotlighting young entrepreneurs, emerging musicians, and brand-new small businesses.
The markets run every fortnight on the first and third Saturdays of the month, plus a handful of special pop-ups, on the grass above Trigg Beach. Coming off their tenth anniversary last summer, they now draw more than 60,000 visitors a season. Here’s what’s happening.
Salty Startup Grant winners and Mini Makers

Two local startups have been awarded this season’s Salty Startup Grant, valued at $5,000. Plankz Deckz makes handmade skateboards from recycled hardwood pallets, and Saevus Studio creates art from surfboard fins found in the ocean. Both have been given a stall at the markets to launch their products.
The Mini Makers corner is back too, giving young entrepreneurs a spot to sell their own handmade products and a first go at running a small business, while emerging musicians provide the live music at each market.
Things to do in Perth
“Our 10th summer was a chance to look back at how far we have come. Season 11 is about looking forward,” said Event Director Mei Wan Sidhu.
“Every stallholder, musician, maker and facilitator who has been part of Summer x Salt started somewhere and we love being the place where that first step happens. Whether it’s a Mini Maker at their very first stall or the winner of our Salty Startup Grant, backing the next wave of local talent is what this community is all about.”
What’s on at the markets

Named Australia’s Best Small Event 2022 at the Australian Event Awards, Summer X Salt brings more than 70 ocean-inspired local creatives, artists, and designers to each market, along with food and drink trucks, kids’ activities, and beach clean-ups. Dogs are welcome.
The free wellness classes return as well, starting with a sunrise dip at 6:00 am and running through to Pilates at 9:00 am, well before most people have finished their first coffee.
Sustaining the coastline
Sustainability is still central to how the markets run. They offset their carbon emissions through a partnership with Regenerate Australia, which saw 400 native trees planted last season. Beach clean-ups, composting, zero-waste practices, and the mug library all continue.
“Summer x Salt only exists because of the people who show up before the sun does,” said Event Director Sophie Firth. “Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers set up, run the mug library, sort the compost and pack down at the end of every market. We are deeply grateful to our team, all the stallholders, sponsors and the City of Stirling who support us season after season and make it all possible.”
“The Summer X Salt Markets have become a popular destination along our coast,” said City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin.
“The fact they are still going strong is a credit to the organisers and shows that people want events that bring them together and create a positive community atmosphere.”
