What’s On In Perth This August — Where to Wine, Dine, and Play

From world-class wine and dining experiences to runway glamour and nostalgic musical theatre, Perth’s August calendar is brimming with things to do.

With winter on its way out and Perth’s event scene heating up, there’s every reason to step out and make the most of August. This is a month for foodies, theatre lovers, and anyone in the mood for something special — whether that means getting nostalgic on the dance floor, delving into French wine, or taking in a show that lingers long after the curtain falls.

Here are our picks for what’s on in Perth this August.

Gold Fever! at Whiteman Park

Found inside Whiteman Park, the Revolutions Transport Museum offers more than a glimpse into Western Australia’s past — it brings history to life, quietly and thoughtfully. Open daily from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm with entry by voluntary donation, the museum invites visitors to explore its engaging permanent displays and ever-changing exhibitions.

The museum’s temporary exhibition, Gold Fever!, delves into the hardships and hope that defined the state’s gold rush era. The exhibition brings together rarely seen objects from the Whiteman Collection, revealing the grit, ambition, and resilience of those who flocked to the goldfields. It’s an honest look at the lives of people who risked everything in search of fortune, and a reminder that Western Australia’s riches were hard-won.

For those seeking a more tranquil experience, Quiet Time at Revolutions is held on the first Monday of each month (excluding public holidays and school holidays). Lights are dimmed and background noise kept to a minimum, creating a gentle, low-sensory environment ideal for visitors with sensory sensitivities.

Plied and Prejudice at The Maj

Prepare for Regency-era romance as you’ve never seen it before. The riotous Plied and Prejudice is coming to Perth for a strictly limited season at Downstairs at The Maj, His Majesty’s Theatre from July 18 to September 28. This whip-smart, gin-soaked comedy adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic sees five actors scrambling through 20 roles in 90 minutes, while impeccable manners and traditional theatre are gleefully tossed aside. After sell-out runs in Brisbane and London, Perth gets its turn for an unhinged night of love, scandal, and some of the wettest t-shirt contests this side of Pemberley. With a rotating cast and a different actor indisposed each night, no two performances are ever the same.

Whether you’re a devoted Austenite or just in it for the cocktails and chaos, Plied and Prejudice promises a wildly entertaining romp through awkward proposals, scandalous elopements, and more than a few surprises. So round up your eligible bachelors, your unmarried daughters, and anyone who fancies a stiff drink — this is Jane Austen as you’ve never seen her: fast, funny, and delightfully irreverent.
