The Perth Wildcats were back to their best in The Jungle on Friday night, defeating Melbourne by 3 points in a nail-biter finish!

Casey Prather put on a show in front of the #RedArmy on Friday when the Perth Wildcats snapped their four-game losing streak to get a win over Melbourne United at Perth Arena. The important victory saw the Cats jump from bottom of the NBL ladder up to fourth spot, and they will now play their next five games away from home.

screen-shot-2016-12-11-at-11-41-13-amPrather was unstoppable for the Cats, finishing on a career-best 39 points along with 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Prather is one of the best scorers in the competition and he showed what an incredible athlete he is in front of his home crowd. He is just SO good at taking contact inside the arc and still being able to finish. He had 22 points by halftime, the highest individual halftime score by any player this season. He has an incredible ability of being able to drive through the oppositions defence, and he makes it look effortless. He was the backbone for the Cats on Friday night and I just love watching him play.

screen-shot-2016-12-11-at-11-43-19-amI also want to show some love for Wildcats import Jameel ‘Showtime’ McKay. I seriously rate this guy. I feel like he doesn’t get enough appreciation! He has been incredibly consistent for the Cats so far this season. He always puts himself in the right place at the right time and he is very mobile compared to other bigs in the league. At just 24 years of age, he stands 206cm (6’ 9”), with a wingspan of 7’ 4”. SEVEN FOOT FOUR! He is an amazing athlete and very, very reliable on the court. He was great for the Cats on Friday night and will play an important part for them for the rest of the season.

screen-shot-2016-12-11-at-11-41-23-amThe Wildcats needed this win to get their season back on track, and they knew it would be a hard task against an in-form Melbourne. Australian Boomer and the most experienced player on the court Dave Andersen went down with a knee injury early, yet Melbourne kept coming at the Cats and stayed in the match right until the end. Casper Ware was important for Melbourne as the leading goal scorer in the league, finishing on 38 points. Chris Goulding was dangerous as always and kept the Cats on their toes.

screen-shot-2016-12-11-at-11-43-37-amAfter a fairly quiet start to the season, Greg Hire showed the aggression and intensity that he is capable of and had a great game. Jesse Wagstaff was also impressive, nailing some vital 3-pointers and managed a couple of nice steals. The Wildcats played team basketball, looked more physical on court and showed a lot more hustle than United. The Cats play off the emotion of their opposition and managed to ruffle the feathers of some of the Melbourne players. The Wildcats fought hard and it was a great home court win.
