Construction on track at Yagan Square.

Yagan Square — Perth’s next major public open space and tourist destination — is taking shape with construction now 30% complete.

The $73.5 million project started in early 2016 and public areas including the Market Hall and landmark 45 metre digital tower are now well underway.

Premier Colin Barnett, who visited the site today with Planning Minister Donna Faragher, said development of Yagan Square was vital to the transformation of Perth’s CBD and the State’s tourism industry.

“When complete late next year, Yagan Square will be a unique, international tourist destination offering visitors to Perth an authentic Western Australian experience and celebration of Noongar culture,” the Premier said.

Vision for Yagan Square

Yagan Square will be a hub of activity both during the day and at night with cafes, restaurants, pop-up shops and kiosks providing plenty of things to see and do. At night, the Square will come alive with a spectacular lighting installation on the underside of the shade canopies and the iconic Digital Tower. The Square will also host regular events, performances and celebrations across its various event spaces, which can cater for a range of activities for up to 8,500 people.
