Dine ‘The Twenty Regions of Italy’ is back at Il Lido for its third year starting May 14.

Delizioso – Of course, it would be best to actually visit Italy and eat your sell silly through all the regions of Italy – but for those who don’t have the money for a foodie holiday in Itlay, Il Lido is bringing Italy to you.

The successful dining series celebrates Italy’s rich food and wine culture with a four-course set menu representing a new region of Italy each week.

Dine The Twenty Regions of Italy allows diners to travel Italy through food and wine over twenty consecutive weeks. The set menu is available for lunch and dinner with optional wine pairings.

Head chef Robert Zampogna will take a deep dive into each region, learning the area’s provenance and paying homage to the local cuisine.

This tasty series begins in the northeastern region of Trentino-Alto Adige, famous for its polenta and speck.

“The inspiration for week one is the peaking mountains and forests of the Trentino-Alto Adige region, home to pork, game, nuts and fresh herbs,” says head chef Robert Zampogna.

”I’m looking forward to revealing new regional dishes each week.”

During week one, diners will be welcomed with an antipasto plate of Speck, crauti e pane di segale (speck, sauerkraut, rye seed loaf), followed by zuppa, a Gulasch di manzo con polenta al latte (beef goulash, milk polenta).

Secondo is up next with Brodo di pollo con canederli al gorgonzola e parmigiano (chicken broth, gorgonzola bread dumpling, parmesan).

The Italian journey ends with formaggio a Selezione do formaggi (regional cheese, pear, plum compote, rye crispbread).

Dine The Twenty Regions of Italy is as much about the wine as it is about the food. Il Lido sommelier James Tuxworth relishes the program because it gives him a chance to open exciting new bottles and explore Italy through wine.

“Dine the Regions is definitely an event for wine lovers, too. You’ll get to experience regional wines you won’t see anywhere else,” says James.

But what about the pizza?

Il Lido won’t be having all the fun though. Leading up to each mid-week dining series, the restaurant’s little brother Canteen Pizza will be creating a regional pizza of the week with wine to match.
