It was reported the AFL wanted to fixture the game on a Thursday night. The MCG will instead be the venue for Richmond v Hawthorn.

The loser of West Coast v Collingwood will host the winner of the Sydney derby, all clubs who play in week two of the finals will have at least a seven-day break from week one into their next match.
