Back for a 28th year, Australia’s most attended foreign film festival kicked off at Cinema Paradiso in Northbridge on Wednesday with a packed house of fabulous French film fans.

One of the highlights of our arthouse film calendar the Alliance Francaise French Film Festival hosted two packed cinemas with a debut screening of the dazzling Jacques Cousteau biopic L’ODYSSÉE (The Odyssey). With gorgeous undersea cinematography and stunning scenery we dive into the man beneath the red beanie and the turmoil his exploratory obsession had on his family and crew.

From there we kicked on down the street to Connections for an under the sea themed after party. With bartenders in sailor suits, snacks delivered by members of Cousteau’s crew (with the signature beanie that I deeply need in my life), classic documentary clips on the big screen and blue and green undersea hues the scene was set for a long night celebrating all things French. Gosh, I may be still daydreaming about those deserts..

Of course this is just the beginning! The Festival runs through until the 5th of April with plenty of brilliant films, Australian premieres and even a few world premieres. Look for special events like this weekend’s Wine & Cheese Tasting screening of One Man and His Cow at the Windsor, Ladies Night with a bubbly and In Bed with Victoria and an evening of drinks and delicacies with A Bun in the Oven for Closing Night. I think the main take away here the films will be fabulous and you’ll absolutely have a drink in hand!
