Oh how I love the BBL. Especially when the Scorchers have an epic win!

The Perth Scorchers travelled to Etihad Stadium to take on the Melbourne Renegades on Thursday night, with the visitors stealing the win off the very last ball of the match. The Scorchers have moved to the top of the KFC Big Bash League table after the victory, which extends the Scorchers head-to-head record to 6-0 over the Renegades.

The home side started off smooth sailing with 2-106 after 13 overs, before the Scorchers fired up and took 6 wickets in the final 7 overs, restricting the Renegades to 8-148. David Willey (2-15), Ashton Turner (2-25), Mitch Marsh (1-29) and Andrew Tye (1-33) cranked up the heat for the Scorchers in the second half of the innings to restrict the Renegades to an achievable target.

Veteran Scorcher Micheal Klinger was in fine form and displayed his experience with the bat, finishing on a big 72 off 55 balls, which helped to set up the victory, and also landed him Player of the Match. Klinger brought up his 50 by smashing a 6 off non other than former Scorcher and fan favourite Brad Hogg. I’m still getting used to seeing Hoggy in colours other than the Scorchers orange… *sad face*

The Renegades star import Dwayne Bravo popped a hamstring which saw him stretchered from the field, taking no further part in the match. He left the field in the 11th over, having only bowled one of his four overs, resulting the Renegades lacking in attack.

Aaron Finch was left to bowl the final over, and Perth needed 9 runs from it to win. And what an over it was from Finch. I didn’t know he had it in him! The Melbourne skipper dismissed Mitch Marsh (34 off 22), then in an epic display of speed and accuracy, ran out Adam Voges.

It came down to the final ball, Scorchers needed three runs, and in a dramatic finish, Ashton Agar smashed the ball for 6, sealing the deal for the Perth Scorchers. A fitting end for such an exciting match!
