Staying active is integral to our well-being. But you’re not alone if you find it challenging to find the motivation to get up and moving. Somehow, there’s just always something that pops up right when you are about to strap on those running shoes. Other times, the motivation to hit the pavement is handed to you on a Chevron City to Surf for Activ-sized platter.

After a three-year hiatus, the Chevron City to Surf for Activ is back for its 49th year. All the action is happening on Sunday, August 27th, and signing up is a great excuse to start working towards some fitness goals. Not only is joining in on the iconic sporting event good for you and your health, but you’ll be helping to make real and life-changing differences for the thousands of people living with disability in Western Australia.

Activ Foundation is a Western Australian not-for-profit that focuses on improving the lives of people living with disability by offering them opportunities to enjoy full participation in their community and empowering them to pursue the life they choose. Funds raised through the event will go towards the development and growth of supported accommodation and training within both metro and regional areas of Western Australia, the development and growth of the Activ Academy, and the provision of clinical and support services beyond the limitations of government funding.

The Run, Walk, or Roll

The Chevron City to Surf for Activ is unique in that it’s both a ‘fun run’ and a serious race, attracting anyone and everyone of all ages and abilities. Set yourself the challenge of running, walking, or rolling either the 4-kilometre or 12-kilometre course, working towards a personal best time, or just having some fun. No matter your fitness level, it’s a good idea to get yourself ready in the lead-up to the big day. Ease yourself into a gentle, regular training routine to minimise the risk of injury and maximise your fitness potential.

The 4-kilometre course starts at 8:00am at McLean Park in Floreat, finishing on City Beach Oval, where family-friendly activities, entertainment, and food trucks await your arrival. The 12-kilometre course is where the event draws its name, beginning at 8:40 am on St George’s Terrace in the CBD and finishing on City Beach Oval. At the conclusion of the event, collect your medal and celebrate your achievements with family and friends.

If you’re chasing down a record, the current fastest women’s time for the 12-kilometre route is held by long-distance Olympian Eloise Welling (40:13), set in 2017. The men’s title is held by James Claxon (34:37). It’s a record that’s stood for ten years and a record that’s ready for the taking (should you have the drive, speed, and chops).
