Now in its 49th year, the Chevron City to Surf for Activ has become more than just an event — it’s now an iconic fixture on the Western Australian charity and sporting calendar, having raised $10 million for charity with over 400,000 participants taking up the challenge to raise much-needed funds to support the thousands of people living with disability in WA.

On Sunday, August 27th, an estimated 20,000 runners, walkers, and rollers will be taking up the 4-kilometre or 12-kilometre challenge with the goal of raising over $450,000 for Activ. There’s still time for you to be part of WA’s longest-tenured charity running event — whether you’re ready to conquer the courses or simply make a generous donation, your heart will thank you.

Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming Chevron City To Surf For Activ and how you can get involved in the celebration of community.

Register to walk, run or roll

If you’re worried that you may have overindulged this winter or that it’s been a few years since your runners last saw the light of day, that’s okay, as the Chevron City to Surf for Activ is both a ‘fun run’ and a ‘race.’

The Chevron City to Surf for Activ is an event that has no limitations when it comes to your chosen fashion for the day. If you’re not looking to set a new personal best or finish the race faster than all of your friends, then it’s a good opportunity to put a little extra fun into the day and join the many others dressed in costumes. Previous years have seen entrants dressed as Minions, superheroes, and wearing tutus. Let your creativity run free and get right into the spirit of the event. It’s also a good incentive to get people to donate to your campaign — “if our team raises over $5,000, we’ll dress up as superheroes” does wonders in getting your friends to donate that little bit extra.

For families, why not make your weekend morning stroll an extraordinary one and take the baby out for a longer-than-usual stroll? Alternatively, if you want to take it up a notch and chase that personal best time, go for it! The Chevron City to Surf for Activ caters for you no matter your fitness level.

4-kilometre course

The start line for the 4-kilometre course will be at McLean Park in Floreat. On go, you’ll head west on Oceanic Drive towards the coast, eventually reaching the finish line at City Beach Oval where your cheer squad and medal awaits.

12-kilometre course

The start line for the 12-kilometre course is in the heart of Perth’s CBD — putting the ‘City’ in ‘City to Surf’. St Georges Terrace will be closed down for the start of the event while runners race up the Terrace and along Kings Park Road before heading down Hay Street and Perry Lakes Drive to join the 4-kilometre path on Oceanic Drive — ending at City Beach Oval.

Start time: 8:40 am

Register now via perthcitytosurf.com.

What to expect throughout the run

Throughout both the 4-kilometre and 12-kilometre courses, you’ll find entertainment with DJs, stilt walkers and activations from Nova and Channel 9. Plus as you make your way around the course there will be a number of hydration stations to ensure you don’t dehydrate, especially if it’s a warm winter’s day.

Finish line

City Beach Oval will be transformed into a family fun precinct with food trucks, entertainment, and activities to help celebrate the 2023 participants and the amount of money raised for Activ from the event. Family and friends are, of course, welcome at City Beach Oval to cheer friends and family as they cross the line.

At the finish line, all participants will receive a medal to take home — something to remember for years to come, knowing that their small effort led to a big impact across the community.

Make a donation

While lacing up for the run might not be ideal for some, there’s an easy way to be part of the action by sponsoring a runner — or multiple runners, if you like.

You have the power to help support thousands of people living with disabilities in WA by simply visiting perthcitytosurf.com/donate where you can donate to a team or an individual.

How do the funds raised help people in need?

As WA’s largest registered NDIS provider, Activ supports more than 1,400 individuals and their families across Western Australia.

Funds raised through the 2023 event will be allocated to the development and renewal of specialist accommodation that meets the specific needs of each individual resident. Some of the funds will also be allocated to community services, in-home care services, and the provision of vital equipment to support the achievement of independence for Western Australians living with disability.
