Arguably one of the best things to order at any pub, there’s no denying that we here in Perth have a love affair with the humble steak sandwich. The competition is fierce, the offerings varied.
But we think we’ve tracked down some of Perth’s best steak sandwiches – best enjoyed with an ice-cold drink to wash it down.
1. Karalee on Preston
Snagging the award for WA’s best steak sandwich in 2014, 2017, and 2019, Karalee on Preston’s black Angus steak sandwich continues to reign supreme as a solid offering to this day.
It stands apart with its stone-baked Turkish bread base, char-grilled scotch fillet, crispy maple bacon, Egmont cheese, beetroot relish, rocket, and fresh Spanish onion. Is your mouth watering yet? Ours definitely is.

The Merrywell is a regular when it comes to discussion on Perth’s best steak sandwiches.
The purists out there might tell you that a good steak sandwich needs to be traditional, but The Merrywell at Crown Perth is here to prove them wrong.
Their ‘Merry Mex Sanga’ is the ultimate feed, with salsa Roja marinated Wagyu beef, baby cos lettuce, fresh salsa ingredients, and Mexican-style cheese on a custom-made jalapeno and corn panini alongside waffle fries dusted with smokey chilli salt and chipotle crema.
Yep, there’s a lot going on here, but it all just works and works darn well.

One of Perth’s favourite powerhouse cafes, Mary Street Bakery is also serving up one of Perth’s best steak sandwiches.
They have the upper hand thanks to their incredible and wildly popular bread, and there are a few different versions floating around depending on which joint you head to.
Highgate’s version with onion jam, caper tarragon, mayo and cheddar slaw puts one spin on the classic sandy, but then there’s West Leederville’s simple option with onion jam, aioli, cheese and potato crisps on the side.
Or check out Claremont’s with smoked tomato, cheese, cos, onion and fries to go with.
