Stories is the reimagined, reinvigorated, massive extension of Perth’s Yagan Square. The ambitious city project features a multi-storey rooftop pub, beerhall, secret bar, rooftop bar, and three restaurants, plus the CBD’s biggest beer garden. And this new chapter is only weeks away from making its debut!

Headed by Nokturnl hospitality hard-hitters

Stories is the product of award-winning Perth hospitality group, Nokturnl, who are also behind The Old Synagogue, The Beaufort, and the recently launched South Perth hotspot, The Station.

Nokturnl is the brainchild of best friends Ross Drennan and Drew Flanagan, who are no strangers to rejuvenating iconic Western Australian locations. Over the past 10 years they’ve made a name for themselves with the creation of a range of distinct, immersive, and unforgettable hospitality experiences.

Nestled comfortably between the CBD and Northbridge, Stories is their first CBD venture. The hospitality precinct is set to become Perth’s biggest CBD venue, with a combined capacity of more than 2,500 people. It will also showcase some of the city’s best culinary and cultural experiences and events.

Here’s a taste of what you can expect:

Stories Front Yard

Stories Front Yard will be the largest beer garden in the CBD. The landscaping will showcase an underlying Australiana theme, with rustic stone, native Australian foliage, and fire pits. Directed towards the whole family, there’ll be a kid’s playground, beer garden bar, chillout area, and big screens to catch the live sport action.

Opening date: Friday, April 19th, 2024

Stories Pourhouse

Stories Pourhouse will be a 20-tap, ground floor tavern with a central 15 metre bar. Expect the ambience of a craft brewery fused with an inner-city, industrial vibe, brought to life by live music, DJs, and bands. The crown jewel of the design is the massive mural by WA artist Shakey (Jacob Butler) showcasing iconic West Australians.

alba

The alba name is synonymous with the cuisine of Piedmont — a region of Italy bordering France and Switzerland — and modern Italian cuisine. With options to dine both indoor and alfresco, the aesthetic is contemporary, bright, and airy with hanging pendant lights, blush and olive tones, and sprawling CBD views. The gorgeous open plan kitchen also blurs the line between diners and chefs.

Opening date: Wednesday, April 10th, 2024

Fat Controller

The Fat Controller will be the Stories speakeasy — a secret cocktail bar with a discreet identity. The design is inspired by the nearby train station, and part of a train carriage is even incorporated into the décor.

Opening date: Friday, April 19th, 2024

Stories Rooftop

Stories Rooftop will be a late-night inner-city sanctuary, boasting stunning views and an aesthetic inspired by WA’s bright and vibrant coastline. Think cocktails, wines, and delicious bites. Paired perfectly with quirky décor and Yagan Square’s original water feature by Perth artist John Terry. There’ll be an open-air dance-floor, multiple balconies, and a louvred, all-weather roof. It will also be available to hire as a function space.

Opening date: Friday, April 26th, 2024

Ugly Baby

We’re talking colour-saturated murals, patterned tile tables, printed fabrics, and wallpapered ceilings. Spread over two levels, Ugly Baby is all about share plate dining and embracing the best of Greece, Spain, Italy, and Provence on the first floor, with a high energy casual bar at street level.

Opening dates: Friday, April 26th, 2024 (Canteen) and Wednesday, May 1st, 2024 (Restaurant)

KARLA

The flagship restaurant, KARLA draws inspiration from the Noongar word for “fire”. Expect a modern Asian menu championing fresh, local produce and cooked with fire, smoke, and charcoal. The design oozes all things dark and moody, with lots of leather and marble for an inmate dining experience.

Opening date: Monday, May 6th, 2024
