The name says it all. Mount Pleasant’s JBento is a modern Japanese venue that specialises in bento boxes and izakaya-style dishes using only the freshest ingredients.
Their namesake boxes are available in a wide variety of options, spanning from chicken nanban, karaage wings, miso butter steak and wasabi mayo prawn (and so much more.).

Step into the quiet sanctuary of Edosei on Barrack Street in Perth, and you’ll find a hidden treasure that immediately makes you forget all about the chaos happening just footsteps away.
Their bento box is an elevated and more premium option, but well worth it thanks to the super fresh sashimi, crisp tempura and other sides accompanying your choice of main from grilled salmon, teriyaki chicken or wagyu beef.
Wash it down with an ice-cold beer and you’ve got yourself a pretty magic combination.

Leeming’s Ichirin Japanese Food has long been a fan favourite for those in the know. Their signature bento called the Ichirin Bento generously comes out with nigiri, uramaki roll, sweet egg omelette, karaage chicken and salad – so you’ll be full to the brim.
They also have a vegetable bento available, as well as a special bento that changes each week.

Is Donburi Dining Room
Northbridge’s Is Donburi Dining Room started as a small hole in the wall venue before expanding to this much larger and lovelier location.
Their special gourmet bento boxes are what we consider an exercise in really testing your eating limits because they are generous. Choose from their I Bento (sashimi, grilled salmon, gyoza, panko prawn, baby sushi roll, choice of main and salad), S bento (sashimi, tempura, baby sushi roll, choice of main and salad) or their vegetarian bento (choice of main, tempura veggies, edamame and salad).
We’re stuffed just reading that list.

Fuku Sushi
Having a delicious and strong selection of mains in a bento box is one of Fuku Sushi in East Perth’s main strengths, and they continue to impress.

Possibly the most luxurious bento boxes in town can be found at Crown Perth’s high-end Japanese eatery, Nobu.
With prices ranging from the mid $40s to almost $80, you can choose from their vegetarian, classic (which yes comes as an option to include the black cod miso) or premium.
The latter including items such as seafood ceviche, lobster spinach salad, premium sushi, beef tenderloin with truffle teriyaki sauce, king crab tempura and rice with roasted cauliflower jalapeno.
We have no words but wow.

Hayashi Japanese Restaurant
Opposite the old Raffles Hotel, Hayashi Japanese Restaurant in Applecross is an award-winning, iconic location for good reason.
High-end sashimi is always a big temptation here, but we love that they also have some stellar bento boxes on offer at lunch which will leave you planning a visit back asap.
We have a particular soft spot for the unagi, with that smoky flavour and tender eel goodness.

If the continual hustle and bustle of customers at Tsuke-Ba is anything to go by, you know you’re in for a tasty meal.

City workers looking for an affordable but oh so satisfying bento box lunch option need look no further.
Tokyo Station Sushi Bar in Central Park has a huge list of bentos to choose from – all of which come with rice, salad, teriyaki chicken sushi roll, tuna sushi roll and fruit salad.
Some of the popular bentos include miso pork katsu, chicken curry, teriyaki fish, sashimi salmon and tuna, and chicken yaki tori.
