Global music sensation and four-time Grammy award winner, Ed Sheeran, is expected to break all previous attendance records at Optus Stadium this weekend. More than 70,000 fans are estimated to turn out for Sheeran’s third concert at the venue and his final show in Australia on his + – = ÷ x tour (the Mathematics Tour).

This is Ed Sheeran’s first appearance Down Under since his record-breaking 2018 Divide Tour, which saw him smash the record for the highest-selling tour in history. Sheeran was also the first act to perform at the newly built Optus Stadium, playing to more than 114,000 attendees across two nights.

“The Ed Sheeran concert will cap off a massive few days for the arts in Western Australia, with concerts by Rod Stewart and Cyndi Lauper, and Bjork taking place over the weekend,” Culture and Arts Minister David Templeman said.

“Western Australia is really bringing it home for the fans at the moment, with this event expected to set an attendance record for Optus Stadium, shortly after UFC 284 set a new record for RAC Arena.”

The anticipated numbers come after Sheeran broke the record for the highest ticketed attendance at any Australian concert at his first Melbourne show. He played to 108,000 people at Marvel Stadium, smashing its previous attendance record. The record wasn’t held for long, with the following night’s show one-upping his already record-breaking crowd with a staggering 110,000 turning out to see him perform.

Getting To The Ed Sheeran Concert

Traffic around Optus Stadium will peak this weekend, so ridesharing is discouraged, and all ticket holders have access to free public transport. To cope with the influx of people attending, an extra 700 bus and train services will be put on to get concertgoers to and from the stadium.

“This promises to be one of the biggest shows Perth has ever seen, and with public transport included with every ticket, we’re encouraging everyone to jump on the bus or train to get to and from Optus Stadium on concert day,” Transport Minister Rita Saffioti commented.

“We recommend every fan attending this historic and exciting event plans ahead and looks at what public transport option is best for them.”
