It’s the final week of the school holidays, and by now, ideas on how to keep the little ones entertained are probably running thin. Thank goodness for all the events.

Take the family out to see Luca, and then learn about the creatures under the sea at the WA Maritime Museum. If you haven’t seen the Wonderland exhibit at the Perth Museum, now is your last chance as it’s in its final days.

For the adults, blow off some steam with some good belly laughs at The Laugh Resort or the opening night of the Leederville Comedy Club atop the Leederville Hotel.

Here’s what’s on this week in Perth:

Monday, April 17th

Wonderland

Perth is about to be less a little magic as Perth Museum’s Wonderland prepares for its final day this Sunday. If you haven’t yet been, it’s time to take a trip down the rabbit hole and lose yourself in Alice’s world. Marvel at Lewis Carroll’s original picture books, then take a seat at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party (no actual tea or party is involved in this crazy-cool digital show). On your way out, navigate through the hallway of doors, squeeze into a tiny house, and climb a giant chair to peek into Alice’s room.

Wednesday, April 19th

Archie Rose Gin Masterclass

If you haven’t heard the news, The Flour Factory will be closing its doors to make way for a new South American-inspired bar and eatery. It’s been a wonderful few years for the Queen Street venue, and the team are inviting you to toast to the good times with one last hurrah. Grab yourself a ticket and bid them farewell over a GINdulgent grazing board and four beautifully balanced Archie Rose G&Ts.

Thursday, April 20th

Space Music

Music and space: the perfect pair | Destination Perth

Take a multi-sensory journey through the stars at Space Music, a visual spectacular and classical concert at Liberty Theatre. English astrophysicist and planetary geologist Dr Anthony Brian will narrate NASA-supplied space footage and imagery to the dramatic sounds of a full baroque orchestra. Science has never looked or sounded so stylish.

If you miss out on tonight’s show, there are also shows on the 22nd and 23rd.

Sea Monsters After Dark – Luca

Change how you do family movie night this week and head to the WA Maritime Museum. They’re showing the underwater-themed Pixar film Luca this Thursday night and giving ticketholders exclusive access to the Sea Monsters: Prehistoric Ocean Predators exhibit while they’re there. Before settling into your seats, wander the installation to see real-life fossils from millions of years ago and gigantic life-sized casts from actual prehistoric specimens. It’s a fun, interactive way to uncover secrets from the ocean.

The Leederville Comedy Club

Every Thursday, join the funny folks from Grassroots Comedy at the newly launched Leederville Comedy Club. Grab a fun, signature cocktail — the gin, peach, jasmine, and cherry blossom ‘Cherry Seinfeld’ and savoury ‘Margarita Cho’ come as highly recommended — and head upstairs of the Leederville Hotel to hear from some of the best Australian and international comedians.

This week, hear from 2018 Fringe Award winner Luke Bolland, as well as Jay Raymond, Tori Griffiths, and Miss Samia, all the way from Bangladesh.

Friday, April 21st

Disney 100: The Concert

Celebrate 100 years of the magic of Disney at Disney 100: The Concert, Friday and Saturday nights. It’s set to be a dazzling show with a roster of Australia’s favourite musical theatre stars and the Perth Symphony Orchestra bringing the animated films’ scores to life. Sing along to songs from the likes of Cinderella, The Lion King, Encanto, Beauty and the Beast, Moana and more while the original film footage plays on the big screen.

Ocean Heroes 24-Hour Swim

Team work makes the dream work

Though it might be getting a little too chilly to jump in the ocean, there’s still plenty of reason to head to Scarborough Beach this weekend. Train your eyes on the Scarborough Beach Pool as 210 swimmers embark on a marathon relay swim in the name of charity. They’ll be freestyling for 24 hours straight to raise upwards of $100,000.00 for Ocean Heroes’ year-long program of free surf events for the autism community.

Head down any time from 4:00 pm Saturday to 4:00 pm Sunday to cheer on the swimmers. Before you do, head to https://www.givenow.com.au/oceanheroes to make a donation.

Saturday, April 22nd

Arijit Singh

Considered one of the most talented singers in India — and one of the most popular, with no less than 7.3 million Instagram followers — Arijit Singh is bringing his world-renowned music to RAC Arena this weekend. He’s the most streamed Indian artist of 2020, 2021, and 2022 on Spotify, thanks to his chart-topping hits ‘Tum Hi Ho’, ‘Channa Mereya’, and ‘Duaa’. Expect to hear them all when he takes to the stage.

2023 Elizabeth Quay Cup

Elizabeth Quay will be silent with the sound of electric riders at this year’s Elizabeth Quay Cup; it’s essentially the Olympics of electric riders. Watch as racers hop aboard their electric skateboards, unicycles, and one-wheel racers, and zip around the waterfront course to vie for a title. It’s free for spectators to attend, with plenty of periphery entertainment to keep you occupied between races.

Ruel

Ruel | supplied

Five-time platinum artist Ruel is bringing his debut album, 4TH WALL, to the Fremantle Arts Centre this weekend. The record-breaking pop sensation is the youngest-ever performer to win Breakthrough Artist at the ARIA awards (twice), as well as the youngest musician to sell out the Sydney Opera House (also twice).

When he first broke onto the scene, Ruel was known for his soulful R&B sound. Now, he’s all grown up, and his first album, 4TH WALL, has been described as a ‘bending between euphoric and contemplative realms of pop’.

Gourmet in The Park

Gather your family and friends for an afternoon of gourmet food, coffee, and music at Glen Forrest’s Gourmet in the Park. Throw out the picnic rug and let the kids burn off some energy on the playground while you explore the wares of the local breweries, wineries, and distilleries. Bring a tote bag along, too, as there’ll be plenty of stalls to browse, selling handmade pottery, candles, and woodwork items.

Sustainable Burger Day

The only thing better than a great burger is a great burger that’s both sustainable and free. This Saturday, you’ll find the latter at a feel-good event at the Windsor Hotel. Head down between 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm to get your hands on one of Dirty Clean Food’s sustainably farmed, 100% grass-fed beef patty burgers and a crisp Travla Beer pint. For every burger consumed on the day, Dirty Clean Food will be planting one tree on their Albany farm. So, even if you miss out on one of the 100 freebies being handed out, at least you know you’ll be doing your bit to a more sustainable meat future.

Sunday, April 23rd

Perth Rocks Festival 2023

Two stages, 28 rock bands, and hours of fun: the Perth Rocks Festival is the perfect way to close out the week. Head down to Port Beach Brewery in Fremantle to hear from the likes of early 2000s stars, End of Fashion, Legacy Alive, and Diamond Sky. Joining the line-up is the Perth United Project — a unique charity collaboration showcasing local talent.

Perth Mint Jewel Exhibition

The famed Argyle Romantica™ ring | The Perth Mint

Today is the last day to see the truly breathtaking $6 million Argyle Romantica™ on display at the Perth Mint. The ring, encrusted with 3.42 carats of rare pink, red, and blue diamonds, is the centrepiece of the Jewel Exhibition, one of 80 unique pieces on display. You can also see the Argyle Solaris™ — one of the last pink diamonds unearthed at the now decommissioned Argyle Mine —  collectable jewelled coins and other bespoke coloured diamond pieces. If you’ve got a few spare million lying around, all pieces are on sale, too. It’s the first time they’ve ever been on display and sale in WA.
