Get Ready for HBF Run For a Reason

Every day we are presented with opportunities to make a difference, some are obvious and others not so much.

For me, HBF “Run for a reason” is an obvious choice. Not only do you get to better yourself, you can actively (pun intended) help someone in need.

With many of us time-poor, there may be limited moments to prepare for the big event. However, if you start small now, you’ll be well prepared for one of Perth’s biggest events.

Now, not everyone can find time to exercise like a professional athlete, so I thought to myself; ‘How can you creatively fit in 30 minutes of training during your working-day lunch break?’

Here’s some ideas!

….

So get ready kids, it’s time to DESKERCISE (…in your active wear…)!

Firstly we have to warm up or as I like to call it;

5 minutes of “wake up and smell the coffee” circuit

1 minute of touching your toes – Come on ladies, it’s the ultimate bend and snap of the exercise world.

2 minutes of pushups – Do you know what’s fun about pushups? Todd from Accounting get’s 2 tickets to the guns show!

2 minutes of triceps dips – Make your chair or desk fear those ferocious cannons

Now that the blood is pumping, lets really start our work out!

Living in Perth, we have access to some of the most picturesque landmarks that Australia has to offer, so its time to get outside and feel the burn!

20 minutes of “the walking with me” circuit

Hopefully you would have been smart and taken the stairs to get outside. Lets face it, avoiding your boss who is hassling you for not getting that advert done is worth taking the stairs.

FUN FACT:
If it’s calorie burning you want, you will burn about 0.5 calories for every step you climb and about 0.25 calories on the way down, at a walking pace.

You’ll also push your aerobic capacity as well as tone legs and glutes.

The stairs are the start of your thigh-burning journey of enlightenment!

HBF INSURANCE ROUTE

First things first, coverage! Start your path towards a local HBF branch to get the best coverage for you and your family!

Safety for you and your family is paramount and HBF has the trust of over 900,000 members and has supported the WA community for over 70 years.
They are making healthy happen for all there members and I believe that something we should all get behind! Your closest branch in the city is located on William Street opposite Lorna Jane! (Convenient don’t ya think?!)

After you’re done at HBF, the Perth City’s jogging routes could be your passage to that finish line body.

Here are my top 5 routes for the Perth City area;

City Gardens around Elizabeth Quay – Take an easy jog around Perth’s newest attraction. Start around the Supreme Court or Stirling gardens, head down to Elizabeth Quay; run over the pedestrian footbridge, around the quay, past the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre and back around again.

Bell Tower to The Old Brewery – Starting at the Bell Tower, head west along the river until you find yourself at The Old Brewery. You’ll find a drinking fountain there if you need. (You may need to work around The Esplanade while Elizabeth Quay is still under work… it’s a great excuse to check out some tradies!).

Bell Tower to Causeway– Start at the famous Bell Tower, head east along the river and enjoy Riveside drive, to the Foreshore River Reserve parklands and back again.

St Georges Terrace – Run the length of the terrace and strut your stuff! – start from the top of the Terrace and head all the way to Council House or the Duxton Hotel and back. Best for early morning or later in the evening to avoid too many traffic stops.

Claisebrook Cove Run – A hidden gem in East Perth (keep an eye out for dolphins!). Run to the Windan Bridge to the north-east (Graham Farmer Freeway) or to the Causeway south and back or lap them both.

Now that we have done our cardio its time to wind down and start…

5mins of “How to do I get through the rest of the work day” circuit

1 mins sitting arm rises – Stretch those pipes of yours, you’ll feel a little silly doing this, but its good for relaxing your heart rate and controlling your breathing, open those beautiful lungs.

arm-raises

2 mins of lunges – Last time, I promise.

2 mins of finding your chi – Remember you have to take the time to relax, find a quiet spot and just breathe.
